About this deal

We already have the Horrible History and Horrible Science collections (which we purchased ourselves in 2020 from Books2Doors) and these books follow a familiar format for us and are ideal for extending the knowledge both for our eldest who is in school and youngest who we home educator. At the moment in geography, history and science we have a theme of Mesoamerica from volcanoes and Mayans to the Galapagos Islands and evolution so 2 of the books in the collection are perfect for incorporating into our morning read aloud books as we study in more depth and read around the subjects.

Discover how to predict earthquakes, how scientists prepare for them and what really goes on under the Earth's crust when an earthquake hits it. Trading Address (Warehouse) Unit E, Vulcan Business Complex, Vulcan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE5 3EB. The Horrible Geography Handbook: Planet in Peril won the 2009 Blue Peter Book Award for Best Book with Facts. Registered office address: Unit 34 Vulcan House Business Centre, Vulcan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE5 3EF. They are covered in detail but with a mix of comic illustrations (great for my youngest that loves the graphic novel style) to detailed explanations of them.

In 2010, Anita Ganeri was presented with the Royal Scottish Geographical Society's Joy Tivy Education Medal for "exemplary, outstanding and inspirational teaching, educational policy or work in formal and informal educational arenas". Plunge into this book to get the flabbergasting facts on how different lakes are formed – from volcanoes, plate movement, glaciers or wandering rivers. With a brand-new cover design, updated text and now including a horrible index, this is the perfect book for youngsters who love geography. Packed with hilarious illustrations and great facts that will have you rushing to share them with others, this is the book to help you laugh at the world around you.

Discover where in the world you can hide from vicious vampire bats, spot spiders the size of dinner plates and peer down the tallest trees on the planet. On one of the local school visits for secondary I was amazed that the school has a similar philosophy and of the 5 English lessons a week 2 are devoted to reading, with the teacher reading aloud to the students and then discussing the books in more detail. This award-winning series is written by Royal Geographical Society member Anita Ganeri, and illustrated by Mike Phillips ( Horrible Histories: Gruesome Guides).

As of August 2011, the series has sold almost 2 million copies and been translated into more than 20 languages. At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills.

If you’re after more books that will make you laugh while you learn, check out the Murderous Maths series by Kjartan Poskitt. Each is written by prolific children’s non-fiction author Anita Ganeri, and illustrated by the hilarious Mike Phillips. The intrepid explorer can take a trip to the freezing-cold ends of the Earth in the latest Horrible Geography Handbook. Freaky Peaks takes the intrepid young explorer on a thrilling tour of the tallest mountains - from Everest to Kilimanjaro - encountering many dangers along the way, including glaciers, yetis, and avalanches. In 2008, the Geographical Association also gave Horrible Geography of the World a Highly Commended Award for its contribution to school geography.
