Blackmail: A completely unputdownable gripping and gritty

To earn income while she studied creative writing, she set up a writing services company that has also done quite well. She had several of her articles published in a variety of British magazines before she published Slur, her crime thriller based in Manchester. This is the second book I've read by Heather Burnside but this book is the 5th in the Working Girls series. I feel like it works just fine as a stand alone book but I definitely want to read the others.

Guilt: A totally addictive and gritty crime thriller (A

Candice's boyfriend Thomas Foster's dad offers her a job during the term time as her mother doesn't think its safe for her to work the boutiques. What a gripping story it draws the reader in from the onset, with a young woman called Beth walking her dog alone in the woods when she hears him cry out. She carries on until she finds him bleeding, and dead from stab wounds. Brilliant, I read this book in 1 day and couldn't put it down. Just love how you see the characters from their life before. Loved it.' NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ When Beth meets wealthy crime boss Martin , he sets her up in business, dotes on her and gives her everything she wants. But Beth is plotting revenge on the man who tried to ruin her... Will her plan come together? Or, this time, will she lose everything for good? Some excellent characters come out in this story and the revenge is brilliant. The author is clever at keeping the reader gripped and giving us just what we are looking for in a crime book. When Beth meets wealthy crime boss Martin, he sets her up in business, dotes on her and gives her everything she wants. But Beth is plotting revenge on the man who tried to ruin her... Will her plan come together? Or, this time, will she lose everything for good? As always the author really builds up the characteristics of the main characters so that you really get to know them. I am not sure but I get the feeling that the author's writing may be going away slightly from the gangland crimes that she writes and is moving a little into psychological thrillers. I personally would class this as Urban Crime which probably suits this series better but who cares about the genre/label when it is great writing that really draws you in. The book really pulls you into the personal and business relationships giving a rollercoaster of a ride along the way. This book is book 5 of the working girls series and it lived up to everything I thought it would be .

This is the 6th book in the brilliant ‘Working Girl’s’ Series which can easily be read as a stand alone or as a continuation of the series Beth turns to Martin a Manchester gangland criminal for help, and Heather's masterly storytelling shows how rounded all people are: bad people do good things and good people do bad things. I am always enthralled with the complexities of the human psyche and non more so than the criminal mind, so really enjoyed this read. I read this book in one day. I absolutely could not put it down... This book will absolutely captivate you.' Netgalley Reviewer, ***** She never thought she would ever attract the attention of Gilly, a pimp who wants to use her for something but cannot figure out how yet. Having just finished a book by Heather Burnside and thoroughly enjoying it, I decided to dive straight into another and what an excellent decision that was! The plot was excellent and the characters so believable. In the 1990s, her estate was the home base for one of the most dangerous gangs in the city. It was regularly in the press due to drug related shootings, gang crime and other undesirable happenings.
