About this deal

For every chain lubricant listed here, starting with a properly cleaned chain is essential for optimum performance and for you to enjoy its performance benefits. There are many cyclists who primarily use WD-40 and have had no issues. In dry conditions it can arguably keep your chain cleaner longer than regular bike lubricants, because is less oily. Want a bicycle lube for all conditions? It’s time to try our WD-40 Bike® All Conditions Lube. No matter the weather (dry or wet conditions), it will provide all-round protection, displace water, and thanks to the strong adhesive properties of the formula, its long-lasting lubrication will protect your bike chain. The PTFE-based formula will also ensure that your bike will be fully protected from water ingression, rust, and corrosion. Complete in an aerosol format, the application is made easy, giving you a precise application.

It is the Danish company's fastest lubricant. In testing, ZF found it to be very fast with the lowest recorded drip lubricant wear rate of all. CeramicSpeed claims a proper application will be around 180 miles. So this could be a good option to use if you're racing or don't want to reapply / clean chains every week or less. The specially designed formula provides long-lasting lubrication and protection for your chain. Its precise non drip applicator minimises any waste when used in the application. The cycle chain oil works by penetrating into the links of the chain before drying, leaving a very thin and active layer to provide longer-lasting lubrication and reduced wear and tear. A cookie set by YouTube to measure bandwidth that determines whether the user gets the new or old player interface. If you want to use normal oil, the gear oil that chain manufacturers recommend works fine. But remember that they’re simply suggesting something that they know will work to some extent, and that doesn’t favour any brand, and that won’t lead to litigation if that product changed or didn’t perform as expected. The problem is that it flings off like crazy, and as the testing has shown, that means it offers poor corrosion protection – there’s no point testing rust proofing without spinning the samples first, which is why I did this the way I did. Will WD-40 remove rust from the bike chain? There’s no debate on this topic. WD-40 is great at removing rust from your bike chain.

If a chain and cassette are worn out after 3000 miles, for example, this could be within a year's worth of riding for plenty of cyclists. The cost of a new chain and cassette will far exceed a bottle of more premium chain lubricant. I have had to explain to plenty of cyclists that their drivetrain is completely worn out and needs replacing which has resulted in a large bill. It's never a nice conversation, especially if you're on the receiving end of the bad news, but it's something that's totally avoidable with a little effort and the right chain lube. What are penetration issues? WD-40 recommends this Bike All Conditions Lube 'for chains, derailleurs, pivot points, cables and shifters'. In other words, everything on your bike that moves against something else. Ignoring the last four, because it's impossible to measure its performance against any other spray aerosol product, I've focused on the chain. Here, it's moderately effective, but really no different to other spray lubricants, and works out quite expensive because you have to keep applying. Cleaning regime: religious or couldn't care less, degrease or don't degrease first, brush or chain machineHow often should you get your motorcycle serviced? For motorcycle servicing, it is best to refer to the owner’s manual to find the recommended servicing frequency. As a general thumb rule, it is advised to service the motorcycle for every 3000 miles (or 5000 kilometres) of distance traveled. You will want to spray it on the rusty areas of the chain and let it sit for about 3 to 5 minutes. to work its magic. Next you’ll want to use a wire brush to scrape and remove off the rusted chain portions. Second, there would be jerky wheel movements. Since the wheel is not receiving the power from the chain properly, the speed continuously dwindles. Despite releasing All-Conditions, Wet and Indoor lubricants this year, the All Conditions lube is closest to the previous UFO drip in performance but is now white instead of grey. The CeramicSpeed bottle has a 'pea' inside to help mix the lubricant, the only lube to have this. Application is also easy with a very fine nozzle.

With 55 lubes reviewed, including gear oil and chainsaw oil, we’ve also employed the services of a leading lubrication testing lab to ensure this is the most detailed and trust-worthy test you’ll ever see… With no industry standard I can’t tell you if there’s a lower limit to this, but the comparison in no less valuable. Lubricate: drop or spray, douse it or apply sparingly, inside of link or outside, allow to soak in or wipe offRemember to apply WD-40 Specialist Bike Chain Lube before riding to keep friction low and lengthen the life of your chain. Most modern bikes use a chain with O-rings (or X-rings) that seal in grease from the factory between the rivet and the bushing, which keeps it flexing smoothly and reduces internal wear. That’s there for the lifetime of the chain, which is why you don’t want to be too aggressive with your cleaning, or use products that could penetrate. To be very clear – WD-40 will not ruin your bike chain. It’s a great product not only for cleaning your bike chain, but also as your main lubricant. If you are reading this guide you may well know this already. But we will include it anyway. WD40 isn't a chain lubricant and there are far more effective options out there. WD40 (the brand) also makes a range of bike-specific chain lubricants now that are better suited to the job, so save the WD40 (the product) for un-seizing or protecting metal parts. How can I clean my chain properly?

All of the lubricants in this guide are excellent. Their differences are highlighted depending on what conditions you are riding in. But any lubricant from our guide will perform very well compared to poorer lubricants on the market. What are the different types of chain lube?S100 White Chain Spray 2.0 had the best extreme pressure performance in a chain lube, and performs well, as well as giving a clear but not untidy indication of where you have – and haven’t applied it. Unless you’ve got a motorcycle with a shaft- or belt-drive, chain lube is an essential part of motorcycle maintenance.
