About this deal

On yesterday's Times-Contrarian | NYA, Neil Young writes about how it has been 50 years since the album Time Fades Away was released and now a CD should be released?! Features Elvis Costello, Crosby Stills & Nash, Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, Ben Harper, Elton John, Norah Jones, Lady Antebellum, Dave Matthews, James Taylor, Keith Urban, and others. Confusingly worded announcement, but it sounds like the vinyl is part of the rerelease of TFA from last year, only delayed because of global pressing availability. But yes this is an album that ought to never again go out of print. I have read and understand no Grateful Dead titles since 2012 use HDCD peak extension and Neil obviously isn’t using it anymore, but if only due to the Dead, there are a LOT of titles out there HDCD encoded with peak extension. Going forward, we will not be able to hear a small part of this music.

The first official CD release of “Time fades Away” comes in the four CD box set “Official Release Series Discs 5-8”. Now if you don’t know “Time Fades Away” – well, it isn’t “Harvest”. In fact it was the first of the “Ditch” trilogy. Neil Young thought that with “Harvest” he was in “the Middle of the road” and he would rather be in “the ditch”. And “Time Fades Away” is a live album and it is totally raw – Neil’s vocals are not perfect and the production values are basic. The state of HDCD and how Microsoft has let it go is a real argument for investing as consumers only in vinyl, FLAC, WAVE, AIFF, CDs, and MP3s. And to be crystal clear here, no one is complaining and everyone is grateful that these recordings are finally seeing the light of day regardless of whether an OBS or OPS or whatever series. archives one, archives two, original release series 5 -8 and original release series 8.5 -12 are all out of print and selling for silly money.

Catalog

officially released. Those interested in obtaining a legal copy of Time Fades Away were urged to sign the petition. Of course” Time Fades Away” did not sell – I had to search for it for ages before I found a cassette copy. But it is bloody brilliant and possibly the best live album ever. – No, it is one of the greatest albums ever. And at last I have a legal CD copy – I have it on vinyl – this is far superior. in terms of possibilities, someone put together an alternate mix of TFA from various other dates which we found to be pretty cool. It included an amazingly outrageous version of Last Dance that went on forever. The Neil Young Official Release Series Volume 3. This Limited Edition Box Set contains the Neil Young albums American Stars & Bars, Comes A Time, Rust Never Sleeps, Live Rust and Long May You Run. Live Rust is a 1979 live album with Crazy Horse recorded during his fall 1978 Rust Never Sleeps tour.

The 1979 Rust Never Sleeps album features Neil Young with the band Crazy Horse. Most of the album was recorded live then overdubbed. The companion set – Official Release Series Disc 8.5-12 – would contain the next four albums, so that is CD editions of American Stars & Bars, Comes A Time, Rust Never Sleeps, Live Rust and Long May You Run. In terms of availability/rarity, On The Beach was eventually issued on CD for the first time in 2003 but Time Fades Away has never been released on the format and Tonight’s The Night and Zuma are both long overdue a reissue. The Official Release Series Disc 5-8 box set was issued on vinyl in November 2014 and a four-CD equivalent would feature a superb collection of sought-after Young, including On The Beach (1974), Time Fades Away (1973), Tonight’s The Night (1975) and Zuma (1975). Credited to the Stills-Young Band, the 1976 album Long May You Run is a collaboration between Neil Young and Stephen Stills.

Five Albums Released on Limited Edition 6LP Box Set! Reissued on 180g Audiophile Vinyl for the First Time! The American Stars 'n Bars album was released in 1977 and features music compiled from a 29 month period of recording sessions. Included is one of Young's best-known song "Like A Hurricane". Awaiting repress titles are in the process of being repressed by the label. No ETA is available at this time. Just a weird state of affairs. Seems like it would be simple enough to delete the old versions of the CDs and replace them with the remasters, just as they've done with the s/t, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, After The Gold Rush, and Harvest. And for someone who seems to care about sound quality, it seems weird to let the old CD masters remain out there in the wild as the standard CD versions. none of the 13 albums, not a single one of them, has seen the light of day as a single release. if you want to buy one of them as an individual album you must buy an older master.

Disc 1: Time Fades Away (originally released as Reprise MS 2151, 1973 - previously unreleased on CD) Speak not because it is safe, but because it is right.— Edward Snowden (@Snowden) February 11, 2017If we didn't believe in typical " neilyoungian logic" than we'd think ol' Neil was punking us. Or maybe this is Neil's subtle " neilyoungian logic" way of suggesting we take the TFA petition down, mission accomplished???
