While Spring is most certainly in full swing, I’ve found the transition very hard to get into. With working so much lately due to illness with my co-worker I’m having to do 2 people’s jobs which is very tiresome. So the lack of inspiration and motivation has hit me hard. However, the other day while taking a stroll, I came upon a beautiful cherry blossom tree that just looked so gorgeous amongst the blue sky. The contrast of the pink hue against the pastel blue sky was just perfect. Then it hit me, I want to take inspiration of Spring and how flowers almost regenerate themselves after dying off. It starts with falling down and being suffocated by events that are happening in my life, problems and just things going on around me. I want to symbolise this by falling and vines taking over my body, wrapping themselves around me and suffocating me. But then I slowly break free from these vines and show them that I’m strong and powerful. Which will end with what will be the “King of Spring”. This idea I would like to do a photoshoot and a mini-film, with a voice-over on top which is something I’ve not tried before. This will be a very fashion forward project and will have many different outfits. I want this to be something I can really sink my creative teeth into. I’ve not done a big scale photoshoot for a long time and I really want to do something different. I want flowers to be the full feature so I’m even prepared to get my sewing skills out and sew fake flowers onto pieces of clothing to make the “King of Spring”. I have a week off work from the 23rd of April and it’s something I want to really prepare and makes sure everything is perfect. My best friend Ellen has said she will help me, as it’s too big a task to even do by myself. But in the mean time I shall try and do other little projects, but this project is most certainly something I’ve wanted to do for a while. I’m super excited and can’t wait for how it turns out!
So the pyjama styling has been around now for nearly a year. But I’ve recently fallen so deeply in love with it. That fact a lot of places are now including it in their Spring and Summer collections is making me so happy. With the likes of ASOS, River Island, and Marks and Spencer’s all following this trend into Spring and Summer. The outfit I’m wearing is currently in the sale at Dorothy Perkins. I found the trousers which I instantly fell in love with, I’m someone who’s always into Cigarette trousers or skinny jeans. So to wear a wide leg in the style of a pyjama was something new to me, I wasn’t sure whether it would look right on me as I’m skinny. However, I decided to buy them there and then! £12 for the trousers. Bargain! I then found a similar style shirt on ASOS that looked perfect. However, when it arrived, the colouring was way off compared to the trousers. Instead of white pipping it was like a beige colour pipping, so I sent it back. I then needed a shirt that matched the trousers. So I typed into google, pyjama style pipped shirt and low and behold the shirt to match the trousers was on Dorothy Perkins. Size 12 which is what I have to get in women’s as I’m broad shouldered for £7! Another bargain.
When Styling I wanted to keep it simple and something I could wear in all seasons. However it’s winter here so adding a roll neck underneath was needed. I added my ribbed white roll neck from Topman and I really loved that it added just that extra look to the outfit. Throw on my much loved fedora hat and my M&S trainers and I was away. I really love this outfit and it has been one of the comfiest outfits in my wardrobe to date. Check out my video:
Say Hello to the brown haired Luke!
With trends at the moment weaving in and out of the 90’s, I styled myself in something that resembles that of the 90’s. Sporty Luxe. A trend where you mix sporty items with clothing that looks high end, giving you the sporty luxe trend. Teaming a sporty looking jumper with a ribbed roll neck underneath gives you that extra layer for those colder days. Adding a pair of wool joggers to give you that laid back relaxed athletic vibe. While adding a pair of white socks and white trainers to finish off the sporty look.
This has to be one of my favourite looks right now, adding my light grey duster jacket over the top of the outfit makes it look very on trend at the moment. I love how easy yet stylish the outfit is.
All items are now in the sale so go find a bargain!
So every year I get the same question asked me… “Luke, what would you like for Christmas?” To be honest, the boy who has every kind of fashion element to his wardrobe and I’m not really one for expensive cosmetics or things like that, So I must be a nightmare to buy for. Christmas for me is more about the giving, I love to give out things that people have wanted for so long. I take mental notes throughout the year and keep lists of what people have said they want, which comes very handy when it comes to Christmas. Presentation of how you give the present and what card you give is also a big thing for me. It has to be kept in the same aesthetic, all one theme. But I’ll do a different post about how I wrap presents and cards another time. For now here is my Wish List for Christmas as I’ve been made to do one!
- Zara Cape – Now, like I said in my video I found this cape a couple of weeks ago. Since then I’ve tried to track it down and nothing has come to light, I can’t find it anywhere. So this is a Zara Cape that I’d love but can’t find anywhere anymore.
- ASOS Suede Boot – I’ve never really loved suede as much as other materials but this year I’ve come to realise how smart looking they really are. Maybe, just a little impractical where I live out in the countryside but they would certainly look good with a killer outfit. From ASOS and at a reasonable price. Just what you want for a pair of boots for winter.
- ASOS Blanket Scarf – I love a good blanket scarf. Something to smother me on those cold winter days wins in my book. I have 4 already and alternate them with different coats every day for work so adding another one that would really go with my camel coat would be something I’d welcome any day of the week! At just £18 it’s a steal!
- River Island Bomber Jacket – This jacket should be number 1 on my list as it’s just stunning. The detailing on the collar is so superior to any bomber jacket I’ve seen. River Island always gets it right with their jackets and this one is no exception! At £75, it’s a little pricey for a Christmas present but it would be totally worth it.
- Topman Velvet Zip Through Shirt – Velvet is a big trend at the moment and is continuing to dominate the fashion world. Everything is velvet at the moment and Topman has got it right with this Zip through shirt. It comes in either the green which I love or the Burgundy (Link) A simple way to introduce the velvet trend into your wardrobe at a small price of just £35!
- M&S Fairisle PJs – These pj’s are to die for. I love anything with polar bears and a little bit of fair isle. Yes, they might be kids but I’m fortunate or unfortunate to fit into them. The prices vary as the size goes up but still a very reasonable price!
- ASOS Khaki Fedora – Anybody that knows will know I love a good hat and ASOS make amazing hats. Again dipping into a high trend at the moment which khaki, so it would be perfect to introduce this colour to your wardrobe with accessories instead of going the whole khaki clothing.
- Topman Roll Neck – Not mentioned on my video as I was silly to miss it out. But this Topman ribbed roll neck is what you need on those cold days in winter. A gorgeous colour and a reasonable price.
That concludes my Christmas wish-list, here is my video that goes into more depth about each product:
This weekend Telford shopping centre are holding a Lifestyle and fashion event. Instead of the conventional models down a runway fashion show, Telford Shopping Centre have created 3 pop up zones where they showcase 3 different capsules looks and on-trend pieces. I was lucky enough to be asked to do a little bit of a blog post and I’ve also created a little video to capture some of the trending looks at the moment. The shows are every 20 minutes throughout the day so you have no excuse on missing one during your shopping time at the Town Centre!
The first capsule located on New Row (Near House of Fraser) and is a mix of autumnal tones and animal print. The models strutted their stuff to the music while showcasing what they were wearing. With pieces from Zara, River Island and much more. The capsule embodies the latest trend of Animal prints and the soft autumn tones of the season. Camels, khakis and beige where the woman rocked pieces with the ever so trendy animal print. Key pieces for me was the Zara print joggers and River Island Bomber Jacket outfit.
The second capsule is located in Dean Street(Outside M&S and Primark) and is a mix of metallics and winter layering. The models came out and did a big dance routine, which I thought was very clever as it kinds of gives you an idea to what the clothes would look like in movement instead of being rigid, after all, this was where they showcased some occasion-wear and no doubt people would want to see how it would stand up to some dance moves. With pieces from M&S, Primark and House of Fraser the dance routine went down a storm and really showcased the clothes well. Some of the models were wearing this season’s hottest trend and that is the metallics and others were wearing coats and scarves for the layering element. Key pieces/outfits for me was the M&S shearling coat (very biased as I work there) and the Primark green embroidered bomber jacket outfit.
The final capsule is located in Sherwood Square (Outside Next and Sports Direct) and is a mix of street and pretty embroidered pieces. The models also did a big dance routine for this display too. They picked some of the key trends for this street wear look which was Joggers with tailoring staples and also embroidered jeans which are very big at the moment. Pieces from New Look, Tag and Next taking centre stage on the basketball court-shaped dance floor. Key pieces from there were the Next embroidered lion bomber jacket for kids and the Burgundy overcoat from New Look.
I really enjoyed being a guest blogger for the Town Centre, I really enjoyed watching the shows and I hope it inspires more people to think differently about how to style their clothes and how to pick up on key trends. I’ve put together a short video of the shows to give you a little sneak peek of what’s in store for you if you head on down to Telford this weekend.
So with a year gone by within a blink of an eye, I can’t believe it’s time to start digging out my padded fur-lined bomber jackets, my trusty blanket scarves and the very Autumn and Winter friendly Chelsea boot. This outfit showcase is just that. Showcasing the best pieces I own that keep my warm through the cold and dark months of Autumn and Winter.
So I’ve not done an OOTD showcase for some time and today was the first time I was inspired to go and do a video that was just that. It made me realise how much I missed doing them and how much I need to push myself to get back into them. This outfit is pretty much all my holiday clothes that I shouldn’t be wearing. But I felt I wanted to showcase the outfit and make fashion.
The top is a love of mine. I have so many of these tops, especially in a stripe. I’m addicted to anything with a stripe so much so I have to buy it there and then if I see anything. The top is from Primark and was only about £4.50
The shorts are a new love of mine. High waisted, a-line men’s shorts which shocked me as I thought they were women’s when I purchased them. I’ve always wanted these kind of shorts as I just love the shape of them. I purchased these from River Island sale for £8.
The Sandals are a stunning addition to my wardrobe. I have a very similar pair in black but they’re so flat to the floor where as these are not. I needed something with a little wedge on for walking around Venice when we go in 50 days! I purchased the sandals from Topman sale for £20
Here is the video for Summer Runaway:
So from having a long break with the fashion hauls. I had one mighty fashion haul lined up, all these purchases are from the last couple of months along with birthday presents and valentines. That’s just how long it’s been since I actually did a fashion haul.
So recently I’ve noticed myself liking things I wouldn’t normally like or even think twice about buying. I have a very “refined” style, always wearing smart trousers, a smart coat and very smart shoes to finish off my outfit. But lately, I’ve been looking at a much more casual and laid back style. Something I never thought I would suit. I’ve found myself lusting over longline hoodies with mid top white trainers and bomber jackets. All things I never thought I’d ever wear. But in true Quirkycurls style, I purchased a neoprene bomber jacket from ASOS which I instantly fell in love with as soon as I saw it. Anything neoprene and I’m on it. I want to try and break from being so refined and just to have a much more diverse style. I want to have more fun with what I wear and really change it up!
I can’t wait to style it up with a pink roll neck I’ve also purchased from Topman.
So as you might of read I was picked to style “The Wide Leg Jean” from ASOS. My golly did it prove hard. My floor has never seen so many clothes thrown onto it. After hours of trying to find the perfect outfit, I finally came across the perfect outfit. Throw on a striped ASOS roll neck and leather jacket and it instantly spoke to me. Teaming it up with my new converse like pumps and it was the perfect outfit. A laid back and casual outfit. Here’s a little video regarding the outfit…
