About this deal
Anyone who has ever found themselves on one path wishing they could do an about face and run the other direction will connect with William. I can’t say much about the heartrending climax of the story without giving something away, but the feeling and sacrifice shown by these characters brought tears to my eyes. Anna, Lydia, Reginald, and William's stories came to life as the story proceeded, melding into the clash of war threatening their lives.
By the time they reached the lake—little more than a sense of the river’s islanded channel widening into something far more sweeping in size—dawn had flushed the enclosing mist the delicate hue of a ripened peach. Her novels transport readers to the 18th century, where she brings to life the Colonial and early Federal periods of American history, creating a melting pot of characters drawn from both sides of a turbulent and shifting frontier, brought together in the bonds of God's transforming grace.
Lori Benton skillfully uses her characters to remind us of how God can turn something intended for evil into something good, that He is patient in waiting for us to come to repentance, and that His timing is perfect. I loved this story, agonized over it and ultimately came away with such a hope and happiness from it that I know I’ll be reading it and The Wood’s Edge again. The trees from which this wood could be obtained should be older than 10 years and cut down during its period of dormancy (winter). Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed the history, and learning a bit more about the times and the background to the war; I just wish it had gripped me more somewhat. How exciting it was to dive back into the thrilling world of Anna, Two Hawks, and their tangled families, in the year 1776.
Continuing on with the story began in The Wood’s Edge, A Flight of Arrows is such a perfectly-balanced story – captivated by the plight which my dear friends found themselves in, I was always sad to put this story aside. Intrigue and power lace the pages as colorful and driven men and women seek their own destinies amidst duty and honor. Delicate lace arrow motifs spring from the wide end of this shawl and transform into rows of glittering stars, making for an easy to wear shawl that can be styled in many ways.Lori Benton is willing to face what that means in the reality of a fallen world, what might be required to serve this Creator God who commands we put others above ourselves. This book bring us back to the ending of The Wood's Edge as we find William Aubrey off fighting for the British while Two Hawks and Anna and all the rest are back at home. Their way of speaking drew me in and the depth of their conversation concerning the Lord's salvation and guidance in our life blew me away!
