About this deal

In this story Aisling and her two sons are happy enough but struggling financially when out of the blue DNA discovered at a murder scene is linked to one of either Aisling’s father or her sons, something that seems totally unbelievable and makes the family question everything they previously took for granted. I love a happy, supportive, cohesive team, working on one myself IRL, so appreciate that representation here.

Lodge masterfully weaves together the perspectives of Aisling, her sons, and Detective Sheens, creating a suspenseful and multilayered narrative. I’ve enjoyed all three of the books from this series that I’ve read so far and personally I found this to be the best one.How dark they might be don't learn straight away, but it does leave big question marks dangling over the pair of them when it becomes clear that it is a make relative of Aisling who has been committing the murders. I haven’t read the other books in the DCI Sheen series, but this book definitely made me want to go out and read them. The three young men drive up to the prison and Donny and Ricky use their guns to keep everyone hostage, while Ray breaks out Gary and his cellmate Randy Greenawalt. Maybe it's because I'm not a parent, but I don't think sliding out my coochie gives you a free forgiveness pass if you're out here murdering unsuspecting folks!

A Killer in the Family is a superlative psychological thriller, which I'd highly recommend to any reader who enjoys multi-layered and complex crime-mysteries and can tolerate a certain level of gritty realism. Luna is a former dancer, who left that dream behind for a grounded life managing her familyâ€s construction business and gets the opportunity to transform a gymnasium into a studio for aerials. I thought Jonah was strangely absent here - mainly musing on how good it is that his partner Michelle is going out every night getting drunk while he works late and their nanny (whom I hope they are paying double) raises their daughter. A Killer in the Family takes a look at a really fascinating modern aspect of policing which seems to be just beginning to become more utilised here in the UK – that is the use of DNA databases that are generally used to find long lost family or ancestors but instead using them to identify the family of criminal suspects.Remake of the 1961 Disney comedy about separated identical twins who meet at camp, change places and hatch a plot to reunite their divorced parents. It’s something that is currently untested, but one which a lot of conspiracy theorists will already be up in arms about no doubt. I thought I knew what was going to happen but I didnt and was suprised throughtout this entire book! Either her estranged father or one of her two beloved sons, Ethan and Finn, must be the serial killer.

A KILLER IN THE FAMILY has a bit of a slow start, but as the tension grows, as we wait for the results of the DNA samples from Aisling’s sons, and as surprises pop up, you will be glued to the pages. Aisling Cooley, a single mother, uploads her DNA to an ancestry site to locate her father, but what she finds is a detective knocking on her door advising that the DNA is closer related to a homicide he is working. It felt like different story lines were being pursued and they all connected to one another in a very convoluted way. However, when his sons succeed in the jailbreak attempt, the father brings along his cell-mate, a former two time kill. Finally, detectives catch a break when human blood is found at a partially burned pyre and it doesn't belong to the victim. I do think the beginning might have moved a little faster if I had been familiar with all of the police perspectives at least, it was a bit hard to follow at first. Between her two teenage sons and her obsession with finally finding her long-lost father, her mind is well and truly sidetracked. Even with its slow burn, extra detailed descriptions portraying characters’ swinging moods, fears, flaws, hesitancy, the short chapters, and the twists leading you down different roads that take you on another journey, push you to make guesses about how things will wrap up.
