About this deal

Also, thanks to Daphne Press and Netgalley for the e-arc (and Blackcrow PR for my spot on the Blog Tour. The world's she creates are filled with unique magic and creatures, political turmoil, mystery, landscapes you wish existed, characters that will surprise you and make you fall in love, or love to hate. Sure, but it's amazing, original, and has such beautiful angst, love and magic I could NOT put it down! I mean, I wasn’t expecting literature or anything, but, for instance, there didn’t seem to be any emotion evoked when talking about important characters dying, such as the sisters.

I set the book aside for a bit and then skimmed the rest to see if it went the way I was afraid it might. For me, this is certainly a wonderful and eagerly-awaited change in prose/tone compared to her Eros/Pysche retelling, OF CANDLELIGHT AND SHADOWS duology. What I do not fancy is the reaction of Von and the lack of common sense about the situation that unfolded before this book ended. After a long book drought, Bride of the Shadow king ticked all the boxes I was looking for and others I didn't even know I wanted.Yok, Sul, Hael, I loved them all really💙The writing in this was stunning and everything flowed so well. There are some suspenseful scenes, some sweet moments, and a few sad times…and this ends on a cliffy. As someone who picked this up for the Fae aspect I wasn’t disappointed but be warned it’s not a full fledge Fae story. Once you finish reading Bride of the Shadow King, you are going to want to devour Sylvia Mercedes' ENTIRE library while you wait for book two - Vow of the Shadow King! But he turned out to be such an honorable sweetheart🥹He constantly put everyone’s needs and comfort first, even at the expense of his own desires, even though he was king.

The other romance/fantasy books I've read you just get her point of view, which is ok too I guess but leaves me doing an awful lot of guesswork as to his thoughts and desires. When disaster strikes and the marriage alliance is compromised, Faraine suddenly finds herself forced to take her sister’s place .I am fine with multiple narrators generally speaking, but it annoys me when one chapter ends and the beginning of the next chapter forces you to rewind in time and read part of the same scene from the previous chapter, only now it's from another character's point of view. Though she is the oldest daughter, Princess Faraine lives in the background, shunned from court and kept out of sight. The romance starts quite early in the book, and from that point, it is full of pinning until the end. There’s a part of the story that is not making much sense to me, or at least I’m not convinced of it, but I’ll have to wait and see. Faraine knows for the sake of their kingdom she must stand back and support her sister's marriage to the Shadow King, even though he is striking, with his otherworldly beauty, gentleness and he brings about a calmness that no one else has been able to instil.
