If the performance, gaming, battery life, and software are more important to you, then choose the Motorola Moto G50. As it lacks 5G it's a complete miss for anyone looking for a budget 5G phone, and there are definitely similar offerings that provide that. Charging is a weak point here as although an adapter is included in the box, it’s a paltry 10W meaning you’ll only get 23% charge in 30 minutes based on my testing. We check how well your pictures and videos come out on both the front and rear lenses, looking at colour accuracy, flash uniformity and the quality of the zoom. On the plus side, the Moto G31 does offer plenty of great software options that are easily picked out as and when you might want to use them. Its main camera has a 50MP sensor, and there's also an 8MP ultra-wide lens (that also works as the depth sensor when taking photos in Portrait mode) and a 2MP macro camera. But don't let the limited specifications of this device fool you, the G31 is like every other Moto phone before it - a device that does a surprising amount of good with its modest spec. A 5,000mAh battery also proves useful, as it's reasonably long-lasting, but don't count on speedy charging.Portrait mode is available for rear and front cameras and even allows you to adjust the level of depth with a handy slider – results vary though and you’ll need good lighting to get the best out of it. Problem is that the phone arrived with a charger that is not deigned for the UK and a lead that doesn't fit the charger port on the phone. That is to say it’s fine a lot of the time, but there are plenty of instances of the phone lagging – whether it’s loading an app, or something just simply navigating around the homescreens. The button now serves as a functionless fidget toy, which in a way I have come to accept as handy in its own way. In fact, if you haven’t had a budget phone in a while, you wouldn’t think this was one at first glance.
