I went over the veins of the wings with the Midnight black and applied fine highlights using the white pencil, ensuring I kept the points sharp for finer lines. The Graphitint colour chart shows the dry colour (L) and the wash (R) next to each colour block with the pencil number and name followed by a single number below the initials 'LF' this stands for 'Lightfast' and is based on the ' Blue Wool scale' that Derwent uses for all their products. Derwent as a company are producing some of the most versatile products on the market at the minute, the Drawing and Graphitint ranges may not have a large number of colours in their sets, but the colours they do have will be difficult to find in other sets, making them a unique brand of pencils. One thing I have noticed in my time reviewing Derwent products, quality control is most certainly not an issue.This is more noticeable than in the pencils, where the dry pencil has a subtle shimmer but the wet areas of colour are a lot less metallic-looking.

A rating between 0 - 8 is given to each colour with 0 being extremely poor lightfast and 8 being the most lightfast.As you can see from the swatch above, the colours dry can be viewed as similar, that is until you activate them with water. Simply add a little water to your Graphitint sketch and a hint of colour in your sketch becomes a rich, vibrant colour.

Colours can be lightened or removed with an eraser or by lifting out with a brush and clean water and the colours range from soft greys and blues to warm russets and plums. Then with a wet paintbrush, I continued the same stippling movement so as not to blend or drag the detail.
