About this deal

Thelema draws its principal gods and goddesses, three altogether as the speakers presented in Liber AL vel Legis, from Ancient Egyptian religion.

We here follow up points of special interest on Gnostic and other texts, including the remarkable Thunder Perfect Mind. Yoga and a science of the mind is implicit in all of them. Our interest is in metaphysical and universal symbolism; we are not overly concerned with factual references, names, dates and places. The surviving fragments of these ancient texts, as with the Yoga-Sutras, have their true origins in times that were already ancient when the Christian Gospels were being composed. The evidence for a yoga practice and science of the mind in those texts will become clear from studying this book. The second part of the book comprises a careful, practical study of the Yoga-Sutras attributed to Patanjali and Vyasa. There is no simplification or dilution of the yoga method; yet that method is clearly explained. The goal of yoga remains the same: union with God, immortality and even final liberation for those rare individuals that will renounce the world. Three statements from The Book of the Law distill the practice and ethics of Thelema. [ citation needed] Of these statements, one in particular, known as the Law of Thelema, forms the central doctrine—and, theoretically, sole dogma—of Thelema as a system of thought. The statement of primary importance in Thelema, the Law of Thelema—"Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law"—is supplemented by a second, followup statement: "Love is the law, love under will." These two statements are generally believed to be better appreciated or better understood by considering a third statement: "Every man and every woman is a star." A treatise of physology from the mystic and magical standpoint. It’s study will help the aspirant to make a detailed scientific analysis of his mind, and so learn to control it. An extended and elaborate commentary on ‘The Book of the Law’, in the form of a letter from the Master Therion to the son of mankind. Contains some of the deepest secrets of Initiation, with a clear solution of many cosmic and ethical problems. Campbell, Colin D. (2018). Thelema: an introduction to the life, work & philosophy of Aleister Crowley. Woodbury, Minnesota. Our Thelema is that of The Book of the Law and the writings of Aleister Crowley. [26] Portrait of Francis Dashwood, 11th Baron le Despencer, by William Hogarth from the late 1750s

Manon Hedenborg White’s article ‘Proximal Authority: The Changing Role of Leah Hirsig in Aleister Crowley’s Thelema, 1919–1930’ surveys the life and role of the Swiss-American music teacher Leah Hirsig (mentioned above), who was Crowley’s disciple, “Scarlet Woman”, and second-in-command during the formative period 1920–1924. During this period, Hirsig co-founded the Abbey of Thelema in Cefalù, assisted Crowley in the production of numerous significant writings, presided over his initiation to the A⸫A⸫ degree of Ipsissimus, and held governing positions within both A⸫A⸫ and OTO. After Crowley in September 1924 found a new Scarlet Woman, Hirsig’s position in the Thelemic movement declined significantly, and she began distancing herself from Crowley in 1927. With Hirsig as a case study, Hedenborg White proposes the term ‘proximal authority’ (as an addition to Max Weber’s tripartite typology), defined as authority ascribed to or enacted by a person based on their real or perceived closeness to a leader, using it as the starting point for discussing how relational closeness can both enable and condition a precarious form of leadership in new religious movements. The Egyptian Tarot for Gemini, the Twins or Lovers, is Shenut VI. Shenut is the goddess of dual manifestation. We depict here a pair of ancient Egyptian sacred dancing girls, making the gesture, ‘As above and so below’. The esoteric title of the Tarot trump is Children of the Voice: Oracle of the Mighty Gods. The ‘voice’ is the oracle of Understanding and Wisdom. On the Tree of Life, these are Binah and Chokmah. The primary cosmic duality is personified in pairs such as Babalon and the Beast, Sophia and Logos, Eve and the Serpent. Grant wrote that Indian spiritual traditions like Tantra and Yoga correlate to Western esoteric traditions, and that both stem from a core, ancient source, has parallels in the perennial philosophy promoted by the Traditionalist School of esotericists. [104] He believed that by mastering magic, one masters this illusory universe, gaining personal liberation and recognising that only the Self really exists. [105] Doing so, according to Grant, leads to the discovery of one's True Will, the central focus of Thelema. [103] Grant further wrote that the realm of the Self was known as 'the Mauve Zone', and that it could be reached while in a state of deep sleep, where it has the symbolic appearance of a swamp. [106] He also believed that the reality of consciousness, which he deemed the only true reality, was formless and thus presented as a void, although he also taught that it was symbolised by the Hindu goddess Kali and the Thelemic goddess Nuit. [107]

Hadit has sometimes been said to represent a 'point-event,' and all individual point-events within the body of Nuit. [51] Hadit is said, in The Book of the Law, to be "perfect, being Not." [52] Additionally, it is written of Nuit in Liber AL that "men speak not of Thee [Nuit] as One but as None." [53]
