About this deal

One for the novice whisky buff who perhaps wants to explore further but doesn’t know where to start.

We tried Espression, their take on the classic espresso martini, and found it was so simple - simply rip the cardboard corner of the cocktail pouch, pour over ice, mix and enjoy!

The mere existence of Japanese whisky might be a surprise to the mainstream drinker, despite the best of it being as complex and refined as anything being put out by the Scots.

Japanese whisky is deeply influenced by Scotch whisky in many ways, but has grown and developed into something that is very much its own beast.Well, That Boutique-y Whisky Company does exactly what it says on the tin - well, box of whisky, in this case. We thought the whisky offering in this tasting set was so varied, and each sip left us wanting more - we even found a new whisky style that we hadn't sampled much of before in the peaty and smoky Peated Cask Single Malt. As such, there are a lot of blended whiskies using Scottish base spirit that may or may not have been aged in Japan, and it is apparently possible to see aged shōchū being sold as whisky in the USA.

From smooth and rich vanilla in the Single Malt, to complex spicy chocolate in the Triple Malt - not one sample left us bored or unsatisfied. The palate shows a continuation, with delicate grass and floral notes before a full barley-malt sweetness. Unlike the Nikka Days whisky, this doesn’t map across quite so simply to the more familiar Scottish whiskies that Japanese whiskies are often associated with. Contrary to popular belief, whisky is not just good for being served neat or on the rocks - some also work great in cocktails like Old Fashioned, or a good ol' Whisky Sours.Inside features a range of single malts, as old as 26 years, in a mixture of tastes and styles - including a sumptuous rum cask finish. Despite only arriving on the whisky playing field comparatively recently, Japan has some of the very greatest malts in the world.

Flagship brands like the Nikka's From The Barrel can be seen in supermarkets, alongside scotch, bourbon and the never-ending panoply of gins. Japan is well recognised as a leading producer of incredibly good whisky - find out why with this tasting set. Flavour profiles will include hints of bitterness, too, that are striking when first tasted, but sit neatly within the blenders’ intent. This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. For a gift set, it's fun, creative and definitely a good whisky tasting kit if you want to venture out into trying whisky-based cocktails.
