About this deal

Viewed from this perspective, the zombies really are looking to eat the rich, and it seems only appropriate that this false sense of security is shattered by a group of anarchic bikers, revolutionaries without a cause who run riot in the community and attempt to bag the territory for themselves. Reportedly, they also used this along with a 4K scan of the best available internegative for the Cannes Extended Cut, both of which were also approved by Gornick, and another 4K scan of the best available interpositive for Argento's European Version, which for all intents and purposes appears to be the same as Midnight Factory's UHD release from four years ago. Romero's Dawn of the Dead remains a horror masterpiece, featuring poignantly relevant themes on modernity and consumerism. New 4K scans done at Final Frame in New York followed by grading and extensive restoration by DP Michael Gornick! Something untoward must have happened, as I went in one weekend and suddenly the guy "had no idea what the horror box was", and from then on, that was the end of that!

aspect ratios, the native 4K transfers are notably brighter than their respective Blu-ray counterparts, thanks to the boosted contrast balance. Smart, punchy and occasionally quite disturbing, Romero takes his zombie concept to the next level with Dawn. Being a horror fan, he'd been to a number of conventions in London where VHS bootlegs of uncut Nasties were freely available.Out of the Theatrical, Argento and Extended/Cannes versions; the 1981 Intervision pre-cert seems to be a straight transfer of the original US Theatrical version of the movie (which uncut, runs at 2h 05m 25s). Unlike some other dual format releases I've seen, you don't need to do a side-by-side comparison to spot the difference – the Blu-ray transfer is a serious step up from its DVD counterparts. The standard def anamorphic transfers of the other two cuts are of a similar quality but at a lower resolution and appear to be NTSC to PAL conversions, albeit good ones. These additional cuts were due to the media furore concerning screen violence in the wake of the Dunblane massacre and the killing of James Bulger. Surrounds get a good workout with all of the zombie munching and craziness that ensues from the escape, right down to the battle to get away from the mall at the end.

It was re-released three years later in 1992 on the Entertainment In Video Polygram 4Front label with its recognisable gold coloured VHS cover (Cat no: 086 198 3), and re-issued again in 1995 with further cuts by the distributor now running at 1h 58m 05s, with a total of around 7m 20s of cuts (Cat no: EVS 1027).

I grew up watching George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead as young as 7 years old (at least that’s my first memory of having seen portions of it) and remembering it scaring the living tar out of me. In Europe, Second Sight Films raises the dead on 4K Ultra HD as an awesome seven-disc limited edition box set with brand-new 4K presentations for all three versions of Romero's cult classic, making them the definitive watch at home.

As is to be expected from a vintage source and small production such as this, all three come with their share of soft, blurry moments, with the Cannes extended cut and Argento's version seeming a bit more apparent. We hope you’ll join us in our goal of building a strong community of like-minded enthusiast who have chosen to post with civility and in the spirit of uplifting others. A couple of the entries I added are also present on the fanmade Dawn Of The Dead Ultimate Edition - Volume 2 DVD/Blu-Ray, although these versions are from better sources I've come across through trading and doing past projects over the years. Ving Rhames is the hulking beast of a man who wants to get things done, while Ty Burrell is pure and utter self centered evil. The former strangers become intwined with each-others lives in a bid for survival against a horde of flesh-eating zombies.

Romero interview plus original marketing, artwork and merchandise images and behind-the-scenes stills. We reviewed the Region free UK Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Dawn of the Dead on a Panasonic 65DX902B Ultra HD 4K TV with a Panasonic DP-UB450 Dolby Vision HDR10+ 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. surround track opens up the sound field to give a well realised immersive experience, while still maintaining the essence of the original. It was shown as part of the BBC2 Forbidden Season of films "exploring dark and disturbing areas of the imagination". Comparing the Surround track to the one found on Land of the Dead, I found the latter to be more robust with greater speaker activity throughout.

This was part of the agreement made, as Argento’s company financed much of the film and he felt some tweaks would need to be made for non-American markets. Night of the Living Dead helped shape the modern horror film as we know it today, but it was Dawn of the Dead that defined the structure and content of zombie sub-genre as it would play from this point on.
