About this deal

Why inject sealant all the way into the tire? Some injectors push sealant through the valve core (without removing it). This requires a very low-viscosity sealant that may not plug holes as effectively, and also tends to leave a lot of sealant residue inside the valve and core (which will sputter out at you during inflation). Others require removal of the core, but still leave a lot of residue inside the valve stem. Injecting directly to the tire eliminates these issues. Finish Line’s FiberLink tubeless sealant plugged pin holes and repeated knife stabbings with no leakage. Tyre sealant is a little like blood, in that sealing particles are suspended in a solution inside the tyre and get carried to any hole and congeal there to seal the opening. “The solution pushes the nano-platelets into the hole, which builds up in layers, so it plugs holes that are over 3mm wide”, explains Tom Makin from Peaty’s.

Designed for high-level cyclists who can’t be slowed down by a leak or puncture, the Effetto Mariposa Caffelatex is one of the faster-repairing options on the market today. Therefore, we performed comparative tests in our workshop, controlling the variables as much as possible. Fillmore valves are not new. I actually had my copy in hand at the end of last summer but even that was late. Ostensibly I was waiting for the right lengths for deep carbon wheels. The real reason though has a lot more to do with my understanding about how to set up tubeless tyres. Good on-road or mountain tires, the Specialized 2Bliss Ready tire sealant can seal up punctures up to 6mm and be used in an extreme range of temperatures. In our second test, our workshop manager Will Poole used a Vittoria Rubino Pro Graphene 2.0 tyre in a 30mm width. Below is a non-comprehensive list of tubeless sealant formulations that have been tested and shown to work with the TSI-1:

Most sealants use the coagulating properties of natural latex to clog punctures. Latex is a dispersion of polymers (long-chain molecules) in either water or a water-based solution of ammonia. Inside a hole in the tyre, the air pressure drops and there is a rush of air. This causes the water/ammonia solution to evaporate, leaving the latex molecules to coagulate (knit together), plugging the hole. Using the KOM Cycling tubeless sealant injector is a cinch. Regardless of whether you’re filling up 29ers on an MTB, or road bike tubeless tires, we’ve got you covered. Our simple to use tubeless sealant injector is meant for tubeless tire setups, but it can also supplement a clincher tire configuration if desired. Without further ado — let’s jump into this easy to follow guide for using the KOM Cycling tire sealant injector. Step 1 — Valve Core RemovalApply the correct amount, spin the tire, and wait a little bit. There’s not too much involved when it comes to using a tire sealant. If you’re new to the world of tubeless tyres, we have an explainer on tubeless tyres that tells you everything you need to know, as well as a guide on how to repair a punctured tubeless tyre. When setting up road tubeless tires with sealant you might have a bottle with a pointed cap that lets you squirt it into the mounted tire through the valve (you first must remove the valve core). That’s a nice way to do it that reduces the risk of sealant spills.

The best kind of design feels like it should have already existed but aesthetically there should be no charge colour options. The microfiber modules do a great job of sealing up punctures and leaks up to 6mm. It’s also biodegradable and non-corrosive and washes off with water. The tubeless sealants that sealed the biggest holes, or held the most pressure with a given size of hole, were deemed to perform the best.To test the sealants’ operating temperatures, we put each of them in a freezer set to -18°C and an oven set at 50°C. Not exactly a real-world simulation, but it gave us an idea how the sealants would behave in warmer or colder climates. It plugged holes made by a 6mm-diameter screwdriver with minimal fuss, only losing 5psi from the starting pressure of 30psi, and holding 30psi after sealing.
