About this deal

Rather than telling some kind of story, Egghead is really a collection of thoughts, texts, poems and illustrations (courtesy of illustrator Chance Bone) reflecting on virtually all aspects of life Burnham could think of. The poems are well written and hilarious with some that are genuinely thought provoking and all enjoyable. But if the narrative of isolation is what resonates with so many viewers, we’d do well to remember that it’s truly a narrative, a useful fiction.

Also, some of the jokes and poems fell kind of flat, looking more like filler content than anything else… and that’s where the negative ends on this book. Bo taped his first of two Comedy Central specials four days after his eighteenth birthday, making him the youngest to do so in the channel's history. This eBook can be accessed through the free Dymocks eReader app, ( iOS, Android, Windows), or downloaded via Adobe Digital Editions (and other .Written in his very distinctive comedic voice, EGGHEAD: OR, YOU CAN’T SURVIVE ON IDEAS ALONE brings Bo’s award-winning brand of brainy word play to the page in the form of off-kilter writings, thoughts, and poems. Just think how Burnham’s own pantyfied one-man show would be received were it a one-woman affair instead. The layout of the poems and their pages often changes to fit in with the illustrations too, as some of the poems are reliant on the visual presentation of the words to get a joke or meaning across to the reader. And I can’t help but wonder if “everything” includes her erasure: the way that Inside deletes Scafaria from the picture, the way it remains silent about the many forms of care and companionship that surely sustained Burnham while he made his film. Even as he remembers a time before memes and mentions, he swims nimbly in the digital seas of our current moment.

It is possible to draw a line from David Foster Wallace to Ben Lerner to Bo Burnham: white men who explore the fraying and fragmenting effects of late capitalism and its online infrastructures. If you like Bo Burnham and love to read poetry but it’s silly then this book is for you :) also it comes as it looks on here. In Egghead, Bo brings his brand of brainy, emotional comedy to the page in the form of off-kilter poems, thoughts, and more. A strange and charming collection of hilariously absurd poetry, writing, and illustration from one of today’s most popular young comedians? It’s a serious poem dressed up in the silliness of a tongue-twister reminiscent of “The Purple People Eater”.

As we grapple with the question of how much space to give the voices of white men in a society where other voices have been silenced for so long, their autofiction can feel indulgent.Bo taped his first of two Comedy Central specials four days after his 18th birthday, making him the youngest to do so in the channel’s history.
