And I can’t help but wonder if “everything” includes her erasure: the way that Inside deletes Scafaria from the picture, the way it remains silent about the many forms of care and companionship that surely sustained Burnham while he made his film. Even as he remembers a time before memes and mentions, he swims nimbly in the digital seas of our current moment.

It is possible to draw a line from David Foster Wallace to Ben Lerner to Bo Burnham: white men who explore the fraying and fragmenting effects of late capitalism and its online infrastructures.
