About this deal

There were some shocking moments, twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, and lots of good ol’ Pierce Brown action scenes with the high stakes and blistering pace that I’ve come to love.

But on that review of Dark Age, especially on my first read without a sign of Light Bringer in sight back then, I felt Brown did not implement his most outstanding gift as a storyteller. Second a lot of reviews are pooping on TGR narration or complaining about the audio quality, i think his narration is great but i understand they got use to lysander's VA from IG/DA. And I am not only talking about the endgame in Morning Star, but to mention one, what Darrow decided to do in the Battle of Ilium in Morning Star has a lot of devastating repercussions that can still be felt in Light Bringer. So begins Darrow’s long voyage home, an interplanetary adventure where old friends will reunite, new alliances will be forged, and rivals will clash on the battlefield. Book 4, Iron Gold, started off a little bit rough, though for good reasons that eventually paid off bigtime. Her character has always been a compelling part of the series so to see a major piece of this story through her eyes was so satisfying. It takes something special to make me want to put my hand inside the pages of a book to strangle a character, and Lysander has achieved this in Light Bringer. A large part of how I rate a book depends on if the author was able to get an emotional reaction out of me. Especially when Darrow and the characters live in a dehumanized world ruled by a ruthless hierarchy where the rule of might make right is absolute. Well because Pierce Brown doesn't care about his reader's feelings and is having way too much fun ruining character's lives.

One other minor complaint I have is that the plotting in this book is a little bit weaker than the last book. The sense of care I have for the main characters felt too much, and as I saw them constantly endure heavy adversities, it felt like I spiritually persisted with them, too. The prose is excellent, the action is top-notch, I loved the directions that most of the characters are going and I’m dying to read the conclusion to the series with Red God. Red Rising is an amazing series, its core are the humanae gestae and the characters, a cast that, after 5 years since first reading the series, feels like home.

Virginia did not get nearly as much screen time as I would have liked, but her limited story in this book was absolutely fantastic.

Light Bringer has its grim moments, but it is not the despair filled, no getting off train ride on the way to hell that Dark Age was.

I feel like if it tried to keep upping the "dark" quotient instead of just telling the story that was needed the book wouldn't have worked as well.It is mentioned briefly here and there both to update us on what the current situation is and to talk about the ramifications it had on the characters that were involved. If you enjoy something about a production let it be reflected in your ratings and comments so the creators will know whats popular. Because Eo’s dream is still alive—and after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope. All of the antagonists in this book are terrifying/hateable in different ways, while still having deep and interesting motivations. Especially since all the actors from Iron Gold were absolutely perfect in their roles, so it was deeply disappointing to make such a huge step back.
