There were some that I was not aware of before, which I learnt about by reading this book. At the end of this ‘book’, he makes some excuses about his word count and there follows a sloppy ‘chapter’ full of errors which basically tells you to go and read his other ‘best selling’ books because he can’t be bothered to finish this one properly. I gave up at that point and had to remind myself that I’d borrowed this from a friend and therefore couldn’t burn it. This book is offensively bad. First of all, the blurb (and title) are misleading - the writer barely speaks to these people and when he does it’s mainly to flirt and talk about painting. He constantly brags that he’s getting into their heads and knows them better than they know themselves (it’s painful to trawl through all the compliments he gives to himself - I lost count of how many times he called himself ‘best-selling’) but I honestly think I’d have learnt more from Wikipedia.

This is not an insight into the psychology of killers. This is a selection of case studies - most details of which can be found on Wikipedia - linked together with the author's self-agrandising narrative. Berry-Dee uses language best suited to a gutter tabloid to paint demonic pictures of serial murderers, without giving any understanding or insight into why they committed such dreadful crimes. Indeed, I feel I have learnt more about how Berry-Dee manipulates people, than I have about the mindset of the killers. The incarcerated appear to have reacted quite rationally in telling him to get lost, once they have got wind of his deceptions! Talking with Psychopaths and Savages seeks to understand the motivations for what makes a serial killer a killer. Yet, it was not quite what I expected. A comprehensive and fact filled exploration let down by crass observations, casual judgmental tone and off colour humour. TWP is one of a series of books written by Christopher Berry-Dee in the area of dark criminal behaviour. CBD has stamped his place in the literary world through a variety of books focusing on morbid curiosities such as serial killers, criminals and psychopaths.I've read one of Berry-Dee's books before and am always impressed by the in-depth and personal insight that he is able to shed on some of the most psychopathic minds that we have ever seen. And although Beyond Evil feels more like the leftovers over his previous books, constantly referring to his earlier work, there's still a lot of interesting conversations discussed. Whenever we get into talking about (never 'to') a spree killer, the author mentions that he spoke to this killer or that killer, but we don't get a repeat of what was said. He just says 'see my other book, I won't repeat it here' or says 'plenty of books are written about this so I don't need to talk about it'. Oh and my favourite 'there's a YouTube video about this' (without saying what video or where to find it).

Christopher Berry dee has not talked to any of the people featured in this book. The people he has spoken to are in his other books. Which he mentions a lot. Like loads This book is also filled with absolute blab about guns, and confusing and unnecessary explanations of them. I’ve never seen so many unneeded numbers and letters to describe a gun. For example (this is a made up combination of letters and numbers and not an actual extract of the book); the AK47 .345 x100ft per millisecond squared by the moisture in the air at the time of shot, is the equivalent of the handheld .356738 calibre of a handheld water pistol at a water park in Disney. This book is not what I thought it would be at all I thought it would be interviews with psychopaths and savages but I was wrong. There are undertones of sexism, brash opinions that aren't objective nor well rounded, and at one point he says if you disagree with his point of view, that means you are okay with having your wife or children raped and murdered and their corpses left out to rot in the cold (no joke). If you want to read about the mind of killers there are plenty of amazing books out there, this isn’t one of them. I swore I’d never read this author again and then a friend bought me this book. I have a thing of never not finishing a book so I pushed through, but it was hard work! This book was very poorly put together, whilst others in the series focused on a particular killer, their psyche and interview (which was what made them interesting!), this failed on all of those fronts. It read like a patchwork of notes that someone strung together, with no real depth of research, which meant there was very little of interest for readers to cling onto. I have read many books about serial killers in the past so I was excited to jump into this one. Unfortunately, this book just didn’t live up to my expectations.

Not only the worst true crime book I’ve ever read, but Talking With Psychopaths and Savages is possibly the worst BOOK I’ve ever read. Berry-Dee is considered to be “the UK’s top true crime writer” and yet he is the most narcissistic, self-serving, irritating and arrogant author I’ve ever come across. If you thought John Douglas was a tad egotistical while reading Mindhunter, believe me - he ain’t got nothin’ on Berry-Dee. PDF / EPUB File Name: Talking_with_psychopaths_and_savages_-_Christopher_Berry-Dee.pdf, Talking_with_psychopaths_and_savages_-_Christopher_Berry-Dee.epub Having interviewed over thirty of these twisted murderers, whose homicidal craft and skills strangulation; suffocation; knifing; bludgeoning their prey to death; setting victims on fire alive; shooting; injecting with caustic agents and just about every other tortuous means of extinguishing life known to deviant man, I go further than ever before in this book by inviting you to the Gates of Hell. So this book is not for the squeamish. It will not make for a comfortable bedtime read because it is solely intended to put you inside the heads of those killers who thrive on pure evil' - from the author's introduction. There is not one point at which you actually get to read ANY of his apparent MILLION interviews with murderers and serial killers. Lost count of how many times I read the sentence, “I’ve interviewed him twice before.” Where can I read that interview, if not in a book entitled TALKING WITH PSYCHOPATHS AND SAVAGES? Saying that, his writing style was quite easy to read. It was informal and quite humours in places too.

I'm laughing at the irony of this man condemning murderers as the "scum of the earth" (how factual) then salivating over killing people and them catching fire in electric chairs.

I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, as I've said if you want to know anything about a serial killer then just Google it, you'll probably find more from the internet than you will in this book and you really don't want to spending time with this author, which is basically all you do while reading it. There is no index in this book, so you can't even see what books or sources he's talking about. Not that I'd read anything he recommended, if I'm honest.I loved that this book covered less well-known serial killers; usually, these books just examine the same few famous serial killers. I was really excited to learn about these killers I didn’t know much about; especially the non-American killers. A noted writer and criminologist of many years' standing, Christopher Berry-Dee is also the author of the bestselling Talking to Serial Killers.... A noted writer and criminologist, Christopher Berry-Dee's recent books include Talking With Psychopaths and Savages, the UK's bestselling true-crime title of 2017, and Talking With Female Serial Killers. He is the country's No. 1 true-crime author.
