About this deal

Could you please give a short statement, how you would compare your old love 😉 with this Willsenton? Tonight the Willsenton is really starting to open up. A new amplifier, new tubes and a new modulation cable, that's a lot and takes a little time.

The Elekit does not sound like a tube amplifier, it is not warm like the Willsenton. It is somewhere between a neutral tube amplifier and a transistor amplifier. My 300b SET uses the 6EM7 as the driver rather than the 6SN7 (For the reasons you mentioned). Also it utilizes an interstage transformer in place of coupling capacitors. Reasonable internal structure, with fever circuit, high frequency is clear and detailed, full frequency is full, low frequency dynamic is loose and powerful AMTAST Stereo Hybrid Tube Amplifier Hybrid Tube Amplifier Modern Amp Design with Vintage Makeover AMT50I wanted to ask you a neophyte question. Does the sound from the headphone output come directly from the tubes? My other current equipment for comparison are Luxman L-550AXII, Naim Unity Nova, Naim Unity Atom, Hegel H120. Dynaudio Contour 30, Dynaudio Special Forty, KLH Model Five, Klipsch Heresy IV. I bought my 2nd 300b from him and I love it. Then I bought 2 more amps from him. You could see and hear the amps in my profile. If the Willsenton R300 has at least decent quality output transformers and power supply it should be okay. If good rather than merely decent quality then should be quite good sounding pairing.

Great post and thread! I'm also looking at the R8 and the R800i as a first tube amp and wondered if you could share your experience between the two? Is the R800i worth the extra money, what are the main differences? I have Monitor Audio Gold 200 speakers which are a 4 ohm speaker rated at 88db, and I'm finding it hard to work out with the tube watts how to know what will drive my speakers, any thoughts? I've used most of the caps mentioned here and have found the Duelund Cast, in my case tinned copper version relegates every other cap to a distant second place, really special cap, future plans for going into my speaker crossovers as well. I also like bypass film cap on electrolytic power supply caps if one doesn't have room for all film caps. The Muzishare R100 I have had for a while and is already for sale in the local craigslist. Very nice amp but I just do no need that much power or heat of the 845 tubes and it is also a bloody heavy thing to move. But no complaints on the sound quality. Very nice.

This was over 13 years ago and it has remained this way. So, I can completely relate to your newfound joy with the Willsenton R300.It will be difficult for you to bring listening sessions to an end. You just want to listen, and then listen more. I’m happy for your discovery. I am hooked on tubes though. I also know that a few relativity inexpensive parts can upgrade these Willsenton and Muzishare integrateds which are great values and made in the same factories as Cayin, PrimaLuna, and Line Magnetic but for half the price or less. Deoending on how long you plan on keeping the amp, buy the best capacitors you can justify putting into it. They will make a difference. Humblehifi’s capacitor list has served me well in the past when deciding on what caps to use. Now my main equipment is made up of a Marantz HD DAC1, by the way also because of you, then some floorstandings of my beloved Castle Knight 5 brand -91db- and most of the cables of this equipment are from the ODIN brand. This integrated amplifier is bonafide gorgeous in looks and design. It is also hand made and hand wired, something that is not done very much these days due to the expense. It has a blue semi glossy piano paint finish for a true high end look. It is built very well and uses what I feel is the most magical tube in existence for audio. The 300B. This is an integrated amp made for easy to drive speakers and the sounds it creates are lush, deep, rich and beautiful.
