About this deal

Attractive and clever as Spurs' football could be, sometimes, simpler passes might have been more beneficial. A powerful drive by Hojbjerg from some 28 yards was held by Leno. Richarlison (playing on the left) and Maddison had been involved in good build-up play. Early in July, Palace confirmed that Roy Hodgson (who was 76 in August) would continue as the club's manager for a further year. Under Hodgson, Palace were rejuvenated and won 5, drew 3 and lost just two of their last ten games of last season to ensure another Premier League season. One of those two defeats was to Spurs. Hugo Lloris was easily our man of the match. Here are just a few of the pertinent and heartfelt comments offered by Spurs Odyssey voters:- In June 2010 Spurs Odyssey was invited to attend a gathering at the new prestigious Burger King in Leicester Square. Two of Spurs Odyssey's members - Peter Garnett ("Peej") and Tom Fisher ("Tommy") - went along and produced the following rather unique insight into my personal favourite ever football player. A series of articles and reports giving an in depth look at the 1960-1 season, starting with the building of the side; and a brief account of 1960-1. The series was written during the 2000-01 season but was re-launched in 2011 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Spurs' finest hour. This series also now features tributes and a detailed profile of "Sir" Bill Nicholson, who sadly passed away on 23rd October, 2004.

Spurs recent Worthington Cup clash with Torquay evoked memories of the late Cyril Knowles, who graced White Hart lane for so many years, but who also had a spell at Torquay as manager before his tragic and early passing in 1991. Spurs - WWDWWW Burnley 2-5 Spurs Spurs 2-1 Sheff Utd Arsenal 2-2 Spurs Spurs 2-1 Liverpool Luton 0-1 Spurs Spurs 2-0 FulhamI went with our reporter Ray Lo to White Hart lane last night. Despite not being part of the Premier League Academy set-up, Chester's youngsters gave Spurs a tough battle right up to the closing minutes when Danny Rose won a late penalty which sorely displeased the Chester coach and his team. However, they conveniently forgot the two clear penalties that the referee had not given early in the half. It wasa deserved win for Spurs who now progress to the fifth round of the Youth Cup. Read Ray's exclusive report here. Spurs Odyssey was saddened to hear of the passing of another Spurs Legend - Ron Burgess - yesterday on February 14th 2005. On this date in 1958, Spurs signed the great Cliff Jones from Swansea, when Ron Burgess was the manager. Ron Burgess died at the great age of 87 years, and Captained the great Championship winning sides from 1949-51, when Spurs won the old Second and First Divisions in successive seasons. He can also claim the credit for discovering Pat Jennings, as regular correspondent Brian Judson writes:- Some Spurs fans might still be pinching themselves at this unprecedented lofty position after 9 Premier League games, but others are becoming used to the situation. We all need to keep our feet on the ground following head coach Ange Postecoglou's example. "Big Ange's" one change was enforced with Hojbjerg replacing the suspended Yves Bissouma....... Lloris kept us in it. Aurier was beatable every time. Can't believe he cost 23 million, Tanganga must be better (Foyth is better!) Reguilon seems to have lost his verve and pace. What was Dier doing for the 1st goal, but played well otherwise. Bale on the ball is good but he doesn't put the work in. Dele getting better, Lo Celso poor."

It was a great day, a great team performance and a great result for Spurs! This was our first away win in the Premier League this season; our first away clean sheet in the league since May, and the first time we have won two consecutive league games this term as well! The achievement was all the greater because it came against a side on top form, who had won their last 6 away games, was on an 11 match unbeaten run, and had not conceded a home goal since 29th September in a momentous 7-4 victory over Reading. It should be noted that home Pompey fans have also not seen their team score since that day either......... .....more...... Kane scored the solitary goal in last season's home game, giving us a sixth league double over Palace since the Selhurst Park team became a Premier League side, all of which have been achieved since 2013. On May 15th, 2023, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club will celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of their magnificent 5-1 European Cup-Winners' Cup Final win over Athletico Madrid. That victory took place in Holland at the Feyenoord Stadium. It is possible that we could reach the final of the 2012-13 Europa League (written in 2012-13), which will be played in Holland on the exact anniversary of our historic win, when we became the first British Football club to win a major European trophy. Norman gives us yet another great history lesson, writing a detailed account of Spurs' "Push and run" hero - Arthur Rowe, who led us to the Second Division and First Division Championship titles in successive years. (Updated - 25/07/16) The Spurs Odyssey tribute to len Duquemin was published in April, 2003. Most of the article was written by Brian Judson. While waiting for the Tottenham first-team squad to hopefully get through the international break without injury, I am taking time out to revisit what was arguably the most astonishing of all the games that graced the Lane............ Brighton thought they had done enough to take a point from Molineux, despite having skipper Lewis Dunk sent off for a second time this season, but Wolves’ 21-year-old Morgan Gibbs-White, given his second Premier League start of the season scored a 90th minute winner. To add to their woes, striker Neil Maupay was shown a post-match red card by referee Jon Moss, presumably for foul and abusive language towards the officials. Thanks to all who take the time to comment when completing the post-match surveys. I always read your contributions. Brian Judson provides his usual detailed insight into the career of one of the Lane's all time favourites. There were 43 years and 308 days between the ages of Tottenham Hotspur's Ryan Mason and Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson when they met on the touchline in our home game in May, the biggest gap between two managers facing off in Premier League history.

Some Spurs fans might still be pinching themselves at this unprecedented lofty position after 9 Premier League games, but others are becoming used to the situation. We all need to keep our feet on the ground following head coach Ange Postecoglou's example. "Big Ange's" one change was enforced with Hojbjerg replacing the suspended Yves Bissouma. Whether Spurs would be able to secure the winger on a permanent or loan basis remains to be seen, but I understand that a fee of around ?5 million euros has been proposed.? ......more.......... This was a game about legends. Firstly the legend that is Ledley King, winning his fitness battle for the day to lead his team to victory, with a performance as immaculate as ever, and finally becoming the latest in a line of great Spurs Captains to lift a trophy. Secondly the legend that is to come in the shape of man of the match Jonathan Woodgate, who scored the winning goal in just his fifth Spurs game. It was not a classic goal, but one scored through great determination and application, typifying the Spurs performance on the day. Thirdly, and not least, the game was about Juande Ramos winner of all 6 Cup Finals he has managed tactician supreme. This was a do or die night really for a Fulham side who started the game 9 points behind Burnley, who were fourth from bottom. The game was preceded by silence for former Fulham midfielder Alan Slough who recently passed away. Slough was a member of the 1975 Fulham team which reached the FA Cup Final. That side included Bobby Moore and Alan Mullery.

It is distressing that Harry's transfer to Bayern Munich has only been confirmed today, on the very eve of our first game of the new season. That game, the season and indeed our future will be incredibly hard without the man who only last week scored four goals in our home friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk, demonstrating the full range of his skills.

Spurs Odyssey has heard the sad news of the passing of yet another legend of the 1950-51 Championship-winning side. The goalkeeper from that era, Ted Ditchburn, passed away yesterday (26th December, 2005) at the great age of 84, and joins the likes of Ramsey, Nicholson, Duquemin and Burgess in the great stadium in the sky. Norman Giller concludes his brilliant series on Spurs' managers with a unique insight on the greatest of them all - Bill Nicholson......

Just before the first half ended, Vardy tried to lift a shot over Dubravka, but the keeper reached high and saved. Here is the latest selection of items chosen from the Spurs Odyssey archive relating to events "On this day":- Andy Madley is our match referee for the first time this season and the fifth time in all. Last season we saw him three times, losing two and winning just one game. That win was the 1-0 home win against Manchester City. The last time Mr. Madley refereed Crystal Palace was when they lost 3-0 at home on Boxing Day to Fulham. Palace had two players sent off that day.
