Got a 1TB card a couple years ago after selling off the Wii U stuff, and I've got about 250 GB of room left on it. I should be okay until the next system comes along, which feels like it'll be sooner rather than later. A new card always feels like unlimited capacity for stuff, until it fills up.

Without doubt they make more dependable SD cards that more consistently "hit" their specs and don't throttle down as much on large file transfers. However, Sandisk pretty much "owns" the A1 and A2 "app friendly" micro SD space, and they frequently go on sale. Since they no longer "corrupt" large file transfers (I'm talking about moving a 30gb music collection to an SD card in a computer, not just a couple of gb), I no longer avoid Sandisk like the plague. Still, as they say, once burned twice wary. I probably own 8 physical games, and the rest are digital. I own every game I could possibly want on it besides the Wario Ware game and Metroid Prime.

I don't think Sandisk really meets the specs required for "extendable" or "unified" storage on Android, that or it throttles so early the perfomance on small, constant file reads and writes suffers more than it should. I almost always get an error message with their A1 cards on budget (Qualcom 42x chipset) phones complaining the storage is slow and hence not optimal as unified storage. I haven't gotten this error message with my two Fire HD 10 9th gen tablets on this latest A2 iteration, however, which may be a function of the chipsets and memory controller used in these tablets or maybe the upgrade from A1 to A2 makes a difference. In theory, the Micron C200 is the only competitor to the Sandisk Extreme 1TB; the problem is that there are none available anywhere. Clearly there is a supply issue with Micron and we’re not sure why. Two smaller players (Silicon Power and Integral) have confirmed that they will launch 1TB microSDXC cards in 2020 but unlike Sandisk or Micron, they don’t control the production of the memory chip that goes inside the card. For those looking for an even faster microSDXC card, there’s the Sandisk 1TB Extreme Pro microSDXC card; it is far more expensive but almost doubles the read speeds to 170MBps and is fast enough to record in 8K or for your action camera.
