About this deal

Parasitic nematodes seek out suitable hosts by swimming in the thin film of water on soil particles. Heavy applications of farmyard manure and other composts can encourage slugs, and so inorganic fertilizers should be used where slugs are a problem. Please rest assured that, on the rare occasions where this proves to be the case, we will always do our very best to put things right. Hostas, delphiniums, dahlias, gerberas, sweet peas and tulips are regularly attacked by slugs, and it can be difficult to grow these plants if you have a big slug problem.

Once at the required stage in their life, the nematodes are harvested by centrifugation of the medium, mixed with an inert carrier such as powdered clay or vermiculite. The nematodes are found naturally in the soil, you are just topping up the numbers by applying these. So you can delay applying Nemaslug till 6-7 weeks before harvest, when the tubers are most likely to be eaten by slugs. Nemaslug is a unique product, containing microscopic worms (nematodes) which seek out slugs and stop them feeding on your plants within 3 days and then kill them.Nemaslug® works at temperatures above 5c/40f, so apply UNDERGLASS all year round OR apply OUTDOORS during the growing season i.

One application of Nemaslug provides 300,000 nematodes for every square metre of soil, giving at least six weeks control of slugs. Nemaslug® is a perishable, living product, so it is sent out fresh by Royal Mail 1st TRACKED post, but they are fine on the doormat while you are at work. Start your control early and you will be able to target the young slugs growing under the ground before they do any damage. The nematodes come complete with instructions and can be applied using a watering can or nematode applicator. Wood mouse and adult leopard slug (Limax maximus), both not affected by Phasmarhabdatis hermaphrodita nematodes !Other indices of recent activity may be made apparent by slime trails , or irregular holes with smooth edges found on leaves.

This biological control offers a pesticide free alternative solution to killing slugs, instead of reaching for a bottle of slug pellets. It is a larger slug than the grey field slug and scientists found that this slug was able to trap invading nematodes by increasing its shell size. The term is often used to cover other underground storage organs, including corms, tubers and rhizomes. As of March 2021 there is only one type of slug pellet approved for use in gardens, those based the active ingredient ferric phosphate. Then the water content of the medium has to be adjusted so that the nematodes become partly dehydrated and immobile.Nematodes are really popular for slugs, Vine Weevil, Chafer Grub, Leatherjacket, Ants and Fungus Gnat (Sciarid Fly). You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Nematodes are a commonly used biological control for many plant pests , microscopic beneficial nematodes (eel worms) which are watered into pots, trays or open ground. Other slug pellets, those based on metaldehyde or methiocarb, should NEVER be used in an organic garden. Slugs use their mucus as a navigation system, as it helps them follow the trail back to their tunnels and feeding sites.

The two organisms, have to be kept at ideal temperatures and conditions throughout the whole process. Tidy up or remove any piles of rubble or stones close to cultivated areas, as well as stacks of flowerpots, and piles of plant debris. Each application of Nemaslug® will control slugs for six weeks, so for a slug free garden, apply Nemaslug® every 6 weeks. Many species feed on dead plant matter so some slugs of the slugs in the garden may actually be beneficial. For drench applications over foliage water within 30 minutes of treatment to wash nematodes off the leaves and below the soil surface.
