About this deal

I didn't manage to get Living Death in there, but that card would be super sweet once we have a graveyard full of Dragons. All in all, I'm not too impressed with the reward you get for poking the dragon; it's comparable to Omnath, Locus of Rage, who makes a permanent 5/5 Elemental on landfall. Of course, it's much easier to trigger Omnath repeatedly than Vrondiss, not to mention you'll need to suit the dragon up with some sort of invulnerability-granting equipment to get the most out of him. Admittedly, Vrondiss has a built-in way to hit itself, but it's based on a parasitic mechanic unlikely to reappear on relevant cards in the future. Illusion creature with "This creature gets +1/+0 for each other Illusion you control", for Minn, Wily Illusionist. Five rare, high mana value sorceries which roll two dice of the same type. Each one uses a different die.

Since rolling dice is new to this set, all the cards that I recommend come from this set. What to Take OutBefore Enrage was keyworded, there were a handful of other creatures that cared about taking damage. Here are a few of those creatures: Across the field, the hoard of Hobgoblins begins charging toward you. Perhaps the ideal way to deal with them would have been to avoid this part of the map altogether. As a Barbarian, you were never much for politics anyway. The fastest route from where you are to where you’re going is a straight line. If you have to pummel a few goblins along the way, so be it.

I had a hard time getting a good opening hand in playtesting. Either the hand had no green mana, or all the non-land cards were over 4 mana, or, frequently, I had both of these problems. The mana base is poorly designed, so just be open with your playgroup and tell them you may need a few extra free mulligans. Finally, there was a card in Kaldheim that ties these two themes together really well. Pyre of Heroes is both a sacrifice outlet and a tribal card. It’ll help you find the Spirits you need when you need them, all while sacrificing them for value.

The ones in green and red are: The other dice-related new card that is turning heads is Treasure Chest. Although you have to sacrifice it, the value you generate is immense. There’s a chance to gain 5 Treasures, draw 3 cards, or even search for any Artifact from your Library and put it into play. There’s still a 5% chance you’ll lose 3 life, but even so at least you’ll get a trigger off Vrondiss’ ability! When building around Scion of the Ur-Dragon, we're focusing more on building around the commander itself. We want to cast our commander, then swing in, usually 1-shotting an opponent by activating Scion's ability twice to find a lethal combo. We want to protect our commander from instant speed targeted removal like Swords to Plowshares so our combos aren't stopped. Finally, since we're going to be pitching Dragons into our graveyard, we're going to run more graveyard recursion than normal. We care less about Dragons with powerful ETB triggers (e.g. Dragonlord Atarka) because they don't synergize with Scion.

Other than Go Wide, yeah, all I see is straightforward Battlecruiser game plan. Play Dragons, smash with Dragons, profit.

mana/ramp: 37 lands and for ramp we've got The Ur-Dragon is an enormous one and counts more than anything else since it's always available, Dragonlord's Servant, Dragonspeaker Shaman, Farseek, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Sol Ring, Wayfarer's Bauble, Armillary Sphere, Commander's Sphere, Darksteel Ingot, Fist of Suns, Dreamstone Hedron, Frontier Siege, Curse of Opulence, Curse of Bounty, Herald's Horn, Ramos, Dragon Engine In addition to these, Forerunner of the Empire and Jeska, Thrice Reborn are other cool ways to trigger Enrage, along with the previously-mentioned Pyrohemia.
