“Photography is the story I fail to put into words.”
Photography is something I’ve always enjoyed doing. I purchased my first camera when I was about to start college, I caught myself capturing photographs of almost everything and anything, But as I started to get older I noticed my photography was getting better and I wanted to focus on that talent on try to create some beautiful photographs along the way.
I have always struggled with the admiration in my photography, people told me I was so good and I had an eye for a photograph. But I just didn’t believe it within myself. It’s been a real struggle to try and combat the negative thoughts I hard towards it. The thoughts aren’t anything to do with how creative I am. I know I have a very creative mind, but it lies with confidence and this something I want to work on.
At college, I started to implement my photography into my art and design work. It started to get me noticed with my tutors and teachers of my art course. The teachers at my college would always give us a brief to do our art projects on, while they distributed these briefs I would sit and daydream about how I could implement this to my photography. I’d come up with amazing ideas in my head and I always tried to incorporate these ideas into my work. Such as “Minature Worlds” was one of the projects we were given to study. In Luke fashion, I incorporated Alice in Wonderland. Which instantly made me want to do a photoshoot. Getting a few friends and one of my siblings involved I directed my own photoshoot on a very small budget.
I got the highest mark, which was a triple distinction for my project which just proves if you have a creative idea, run with it! Amongst other projects, this was my favourite and something I really could sink my teeth into.
Along with art projects, I also did normal portraits. I always made sure my facebook profile had an interesting profile photograph which I still do to this day (As you can see above) but other than doing my own photographs I did take photographs for my siblings. Such as when my sister had her prom, I dressed her, styled her and also took her photographs for her so Mum and Dad didn’t have to spend money on a photographer to get photographs for her. I wanted to capture how amazing her floaty dress was and made her pose with the dress but also tried to make it move in such a way that showcased it to it’s the best potential. Wanting to photograph of all of Chloe’s memorabilia, I got all of her accessories and her invitation to her prom and did a flat lay photograph to make sure she had a photograph showcasing all of the things that made her outfit for the prom.
Fast forward a few years and I blog most of my spare time, so I’m always taking photographs but never in a way that showcases my ability and talent. I’ve always been told I could take people’s portrait and capture something beautiful. I’ve turned down so many weddings in the past because I don’t have the confidence to do someone’s special day. But recently I’ve started to believe in myself I can take some beautiful photographs.
I’ve recently moved out and now I have my own space which it would be easier to create images with all of my photography gear. I invited my best friend the other day to take some photographs and the results were beautiful. She’s a gorgeous girl but the whole ambience of the photo was just stunning, so many people have commented on them and it’s really made me realise I can do it.
So while I’ve got a week off work I’m trying to set up a page/website to showcase my photography and even look into starting my own business in photography. It’s going to be hard at first as I need to get myself out there. I’m trying my hardest as I would love it if I could go full time with it in the near future. At the moment I’m trying to get other models, so I can showcase my ability to take photographs. It’s an exciting journey and I can’t wait to see what happens.
If you would like some photographs taken, you would really be helping me out while I take the plunge into setting up a portfolio.
