“It’s Saturday, Let’s go on an adventure!”
On a normal Saturday, I’m either with my boyfriend or I’m working. As my boyfriend was working and it was too nice to stay inside I text the best friend, Fiona. I asked her what she was up to and if she wanted to do something? I wanted to do something outside because the weather was just beautiful, as Britain is still gripped in the heatwave of the Summer. A few ideas went back and forth via text and we decided to settle on a picnic up the Wrekin.
For those of you who don’t know what the Wrekin is it’s: “The Wrekin /ˈriːkɪn/ is a hill in east Shropshire, England. It is located some five miles (8 km) west of Telford, on the border between the unitary authorities of Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin. Rising to a height of 407 metres (1,335 feet) above the Shropshire Plain, it is a prominent and well-known landmark, signalling the entrance to Shropshire for travellers westbound on the M54 motorway” – (Taken from Wikipedia)
With a trip to ASDA to get supplies done, we drove the very short distance to the bottom of the Wrekin. Water bottles at the ready we started our ascent to the top. We started out so great with our strides and was making progress to the top. We then started to slow down. With the heat of the sun on us, it was making it hard for us to catch a breather. However, we soldiered on to the top.
The struggle through the heat was 100% worth it. On a clear Vday like we experienced you can see for miles. At the top, there was a slight breeze which we welcomed.
We picked a spot to sit down and enjoy the view while sipping our raspberry rose’ cider (which I think is my new favourite drink, thank you kopparberg) The snacks then came out while we talked the evening away, putting the world to rights.
Most people would have been out drinking at a club or a pub. For me, I would much rather go climbing a hill and have a little bit of wine up there amongst having a picnic with my best friend any day of the week! It was completely spontaneous and I’d love to do it again!
