About this deal

But power follows a nice linear path and – especially if you're braking from the drops – can stop you very quickly, though you never feel in danger of going over the bars. As with the Juin Tech R1, you can fine tune how closely the pads sit to the rotor using the barrel adjuster on the caliper unit.

The braking performance is improved compared to a mechanical disc brake with simple pad and cable adjustment. Is it time I get Juin Tech GT-F or am I digging a bigger hole in my wallet and should go full hydro? The Juin tech F1/M1 hydraulic cable pull disc brake set offers a unique solution to the road/gravel/cyclocross/MTB rider wanting to upgrade from mechanical cable pull disc brakes. The brakes operate in a closed circuit and therefore do not need to bleed, there are two adjustments, one for cable play and one for oil pressure / pad distance. It's important to use good quality compressionless housing, so that force applied at the lever is transmitted efficiently along the length of the cable to the caliper; I opted for Jagwire's Road Pro brake kit. In the nice green box you get the two calipers, a pair of 160mm discs, pair of adapter mounts and the mounting bolts for everything. The F1/M1 is the latest addition to the Juin Tech stable, sold as a set including mounting bolts, adaptors and rotors.

They can take up to an additional 4 working days to arrive in your account depending on your bank’s policies. They are a little wooden feeling with my old style Tiagra levers, felt better when I tried them with new 105 though. First things first, we had to prise Juin Tech's R1 brakes out of their attractive lime-green packaging and fit them onto the bike. One thing to note: when the GT's heat up, the pistons are a little slow to retract until they cool off a bit - just like my Shimano hydros. Well provided you can look past the fact Juin Tech isn't an established brand – at least not in the UK where this review is being written – you should be smiling with these R1 anchors. The hybrid system offers the cyclist the option of replacing the mechanical brake caliper with a hydraulic 2-piston brake caliper while retaining the brake cables.
