About this deal

So that’s what’s in the book, what’s good about it, what isn’t so good, and how it’s written. But that’s not all this one is, because there’s a great deal of symbolic importance to the End above and beyond it being the first half of the End itself. We’re not going to go into every little detail of the plot here. I can’t promise this will be spoiler free, but we’ll give it a go. The Emperor wants Sanguinius to stay because his wounds from Angron were grave but Sanguinius believes he is fated to die due to Horus. If he stays then that means Horus will kill the Emperor and then come to kill Sanguinius. But if Sanguinius is killed by Horus first it means the Emperor has a chance. Sanguinius however still wants to defy fate and kill Horus.

While exploring the Imperial library Loken finds a door that didn't exist previously and it takes him to the Vengeful Spirit. The book ends with him entering the shipTerra is besieged. Humanity’s salvation lies on a knife edge. The Warmaster Horus’ bloody seven-year crusade has led to this: the cradle of mankind, where he is to kill his father, the Emperor. And while he’s now finished with the Horus Heresy, Dan’s far from finished with Warhammer. He’s working on another novel set at a more contemporary period in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, one with a very different scope – but we wouldn’t be Warhammer Community if we told you what that was just yet! For now, he just hopes that people enjoy the end of the saga. "―Laini Taylor, New York Times bestselling author The End and the Death: Volume II is the second part of the eighth novel of The Horus Heresy: Siege of Terra series. [1] Description

Dorn and Valdor in particular were vastly enjoyable. Sanguinius is not a character I’d written much of, but I had fun with him. He’s an extremely difficult character to write, and a challenge that I really enjoyed. And weirdly, I found an enormous sympathy with Abaddon and the situation he finds himself in – where he’s obviously completely committed to doing terrible things. Because the Emperor is on the first book's cover? And the clash between Sanguinius and Horus was really the dividing line for the Emperor- before Horus killed Sanguinius there was still some hope that he could be turned from his path, but once the Emperor saw Sanguinius (arguably his most noble son) dead by Horus' hand He knew that destroying Horus was the only way.

With Terra besieged and humanity’s salvation on a knife edge, Sanguinius, primarch of the loyalist Blood Angels, braves the horrors of the Warmaster’s flagship, The Vengeful Spirit, with a single purpose in mind: to slay his brother Horus, decapitate the Heresy once and for all, and stop the forces of Chaos from taking Terra. It wasnt the sight of Sanguinius that caused the Emperor to see Horus as irredeemable. It was a normal human Guardsman getting wasted while the Emperor was fighting Horus.
