Maybe she could've included some research she did on the various topics she was thinking about, people she spoke to, or even revealed any insights she had had while in therapy. Anything substantive! Starting with the positives, I will probably always have a soft spot for people flailing through life. Well, unless they are being a menace to society and hurting people... The book discuss too many topics to be explored separately; from online dating, figuring her gender and sexual orientation, her past sexual assault, the concept of love and gaining faith and trust to build and start a relationship. Nonetheless, it is a much lighter and more hopeful than the previous volumes; and, that alone is a reassuring progress. Very little actual action happens in this particular series. It mostly consists of the author mulling things over, contemplating why fe's different from other people, and philosophizing. The most off-the-wall instance of armchair psychology is probably when the author suggests that everybody is naturally attracted to womenand that people who are attracted to men grow into that attraction (ch. 5). Though I suppose that this idea of mothers beingthe initial object of sexual interest is essentially just the Oedipus Complex (...not that the Oedipus Complexis actually empirically supported or all that trustworthy of a theory). Fe also creates a whole framework of hurdles that have to be overcome (with several of those hurdles being either irrelevant, in all honesty, or kinda redundant), only to then discard that entire framework in the very next chapter.I personally understand her jealousy and confusion over the love that other people share. As with my own musings on love, she goes in a circle. Being fine one second, and the next being unsure or sad. I almost thought she was going to realize she was aromantic, as she was perplexed about how one goes from the closeness of friendship to having romantic feelings. This has never been confusing to me, having experienced it a few times, but is in line with what I've heard from aromantic people. I thought what her fan wrote her about one-sided feelings was interesting. Something I want to think about more, since I'm not sure whether I agree fully.
