About this deal

This is the story of Maggie Bradford, thrice married, singing super star and mother of two. We join the story as Maggie sits in her prison cell awaiting her trial for the murder of her third husband. For the police the death of Maggies latest husband is just a step too step far. Three husbands and three deaths. Can coincidence be stretched that far? The police think not. I found myself on the edge of my seat with Joanna’s anxiety and her fear about being responsible for Lily’s death. She appears to be a good person, but as her lies surface, I found myself curious about what she was hiding. This poor woman had such a bad start in life I understand why she chose to rather lie about her past – I might have done the same. She gained my respect when she decided not to destroy lives with a truth best left unknown. This book is chef's kiss and I loved reading it. The atmosphere was fab and I was genuinely worried for the kids. It's the right amount of scary I think for children who read, and just a fun ride for the adults who still love their middle grade. Developments happened that really enriched the world and it went beyond what I was expecting. I added this book to my NetGalley TBR a while ago. I have read another book by the author and enjoyed that, and this one did not disappoint. When Joanna discovers that their new house was home to a little girl who went missing thirty-three years ago, she is obsessed with finding out what happened to little Lily.

A lot of thriller writers in recent years seem to be fans of the slow burn approach and often that can leave a reader underwhelmed. The opening section of Hide and Seek immediately grabs hold of you, slaps you in the face and leaves you cast aside agonising over what's to come.i especially enjoyed the first half of the book, when the kids are riding around town on their bikes and investigating the hide and seek mystery. it's big classic ET vibes, and i love that they're so young and yet they have so much agency. It’s 1985 and the game of Hide and Seek is over. But where is 3 year old Lily Murphy? Despite an extensive search the little girl is never seen again. Andrea Mara has done it again! Hide and Seek, her fifth novel, is her best yet! Mara is one of the undisputed champions of twisty, gripping thrillers that will leave your heart racing and your nerves shot!

This is not my kind of thing. Most of the story is the biography of Maggie Bradford, the singer, starting from her miserable first marriage, then her later years. This part has first person narration which I generally don't like in my books and I don't like it here too. Another huge part of the book is the biography of Will Shephard, the famous football player and the second husband of Maggie. This part is even harder to read since Will has a very disturbing character and personality.Andrea Mara writes twisty turny domestic thrillers like no other and her latest one, Hide and Seek, is out in August. As Joanna unravels the secrets at the heart of this close-knit community, her own dark past begins to resurface. Because she thinks she knows what really happened to Lily - and if the truth gets out, it might be her undoing...” In this fun, interactive game of hide-and-seek, young children learn all about positional prepositions. I’ve loved her previous books so I was delighted to get an advanced copy of Hide and Seek, prior to its release in August.

Thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Del Rey and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

The corpse at the centre of the murder inquiry is that of a down and out young junkie, living -- and dying -- in utter squalor. My normal experience with most JP books I have read in the past is that it doesn’t take long before credulity it thrown out and sentimentality takes over but not so here. Thanks so much to the author Andrea Mara, publishers Bookouture and Netgalley.co.uk for the opportunity to read it prior to it's publication on August 4th 2022. This was a great way to escape reality and I found myself devouring this book a lot faster than I thought I would. If you are keen on a twisty psychological thriller that slowly untangles a web of half-truths then this is the book for you.
