About this deal

The TTArtisan 50mm 1.4 was kindly provided free of charge by TTArtisan for reviewing purpose for a duration of 4 weeks. Handling / Build Quality TTArtisan 50mm 1.4 For those that need an even brighter lens, the Kamlan 50mm f1.1 II is also a great option. It lives somewhere between the Rokinon 50mm f1.2 and the TTArtisan 50mm f1.2, in terms of overall sharpness and image quality, but is noticeably brighter. Flaring and blooming tend to go white, which can be unnerving at times. Makes me think this lens is using a lot of ultra-high refractive elements ( plastics or resins, or maybe some hybrid).

The TTArtisan 50mm 2.0 is the shortest 50mm lens designed for mirrorless cameras I have seen yet. It is available for Sony E, Canon RF, Nikon Z, Fuji-X, L-mount, Eos-M and M43. I am reviewing the E-mount version here which has the following specifications: With a lens this small I am expecting high vignetting figures and this is what we get. Stopping down steadily reduces the vignetting to average values in the corners though. TTArtisan 50mm 2.0 FE In this review I will be covering the TTArtisan 50mm f/1.2 Lens using my powerful Sony A6400 for the camera body. Shot wide open at f/1.2. Uncropped frame. Cornersharpness is decent even at long ranges. (open image in new tab for full size)Feels and works at least 90% as well as the real LEICA SUMMILUX-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH for one-twelfth the price. Leica Support/ Zoom Consultations/ Mentor – Not sure what camera or lens to buy or need help with your photography? Book a 1:1 Zoom call! Same as with the edge sharpness, they fall out of focus when the focus is set on the center. It all comes together by about f4 and f5.6. Lately there have been two rising stars on the Chinese lens manufacturing scene. One is 7artisans and the other is TTartisan. While their name is VERY similar, they”re NOT the same company as far as I’ve been told. They both get their optics done by DJ OPTICAL, but they each do their own lens designs. It looks like true infinity would have been slightly behind the lens’ hard stop when used on my Leica M10. Due to mount tolerances on lens and camera this can always happen and is the reason most lenses can be focused past the infinity mark. portrait distance 2.0m distance (24mp Sony A7III vs 24mp Leica M10)

The beauty of designing the lens as Leica M mount is you can adapt it to pretty much any digital camera. On the Leica SL I use a Leica M-L adapter and I use the same adapter with my Lumix S5 mirrorless camera. That said, if people ask me what adapter to buy today I normally recommend the Novaflex M-L adapter as it’s cheaper and still works well. Get closer for dreamy detail shots Les ronds de Bokeh sont très bons globalement : texture douce sans traces de tranches d’oignons , pas de franges sur les bords. Pour la forme des ronds de bokeh In practical terms all of these lenses is sharp in the center where we need it, at every aperture. The LEICA SUMMMILUX-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH and this lens are particularly sharp in the center at f/1.4. however all these f/1.4 lenses become softer towards the sides in the lab at f/1.4. Much of this can be caused by field curvature. I need to explore the lens to get a deeper sense of it, which is what I usually do, not so much formal testing exercises. But, I'm already pleased to have it. Pluses are build quality, sharpness, separation, bokeh, color rendering and creamy rendering of nostalgic subjects.

You can obviously only find these lenses used these days and with the rise of mirrorless cameras and the option to adapt these lenses many of them are overpriced and overhyped now and the condition they come in after 40 years is not always great.

At f/11 you still get good across frame quality, so I wouldn’t mind using this lens for landscape/architecture scenes with fine details. Landscape photographers should still probably favor the Samyang 50mm f1.2 or the Fujinon 56mm f1.2 for improved sharpness across the frame, with significantly less distortion. Micro-Contrast just seems to be good, nothing amazing, but still totally acceptable because the sharpness and contrast are so nice. It appeared to be in focus, and the focus peaking indicators on my Z6 II would say that it was, but I often saw that the focus was off in the final image. And this wasn’t just at f2; I saw this all the way until f4 even. With every other manual focus lens I’ve used on this camera, even at f1.4, the focus peaking was accurate. Even when the depth of field was shallow, it was always accurate. If it was off, it was either because the subject had moved out of the focal plane or I did. Now at f2, I was willing to blame myself for not being steady enough to nail the focus. But when there was sufficient focal range at apertures like f4, I was stumped over why the focus would be off. The TTartisan 50mm f/1.2 is an instant recommendation for anyone who likes to use the 50mm focal length on an APSC camera.Fortunately I could use the lens cap from my Canon EF-M 18-55mm lens, which has the same 52mm filter thread and which I don't use anymore. One advantage of using L mount cameras + TTArtisan 50mm f0.95 lens is you can use the 7Artisans close focus Leica M-L adapter. This lets you get in closer than the standard 0.7m minimum focus distance (perhaps to 0.3m). This adapter is also fantastic when used with vintage rangefinder lenses that are limited to 1m close focus distance. TTArtisan 50mm f0.95 + Leica SL + 7Artisans M-L close focus adapter

Le Kamlan est le champion de la quantité de flou d’arrière plan avec son ouverture de F1.1 et sa distance de mise au point de 40cmThis is Sony’s idea of a modern compact 50mm lens. The optical qualities are generally better (especially flare resistance and Coma correction), you get AF and very nice build quality. The price is a bit staggering considering the specifications though, but sometimes you can find this lens heavily discounted which makes it more attractive.
