The Defense 4 comes from the military sector and is one of the best-selling 3-season sleeping bags in its class. It is characterized by the center zipper and an extremely robust and waterproof outer material. The zippered cover flap protects against wind and moisture and the integrated zipper warming strip additionally prevents heat loss. The outer shell is a super-light, highly resistant, microfibre nylon with a fine microporous coating which makes it water-repellent. The both Carinthia sleeping bags are current European NATO standard. I am unsure if there is anyone left who issues other stuff.This system will not be too relevant to those who venture out only when it's a nice day; but will likely be of interest to those who enjoy the challenge of enduring the unpleasant conditions that hostile environments visit upon them. I have just spent a week in North Wales with this bag (April 2018), used along with a decent mat it will keep you warm all night. The Defence 4 features a double zipper, so it can be unzipped from the bottom for ventilation when required. It is sold as a 3 season bag but, has a comfort rating of -15C with an extreme rating of -35C. This is way outside the normal range for a 3 season bag and will happily let you camp into the winter! The Defence 6 is made with a 3-layer construction with loose outer shell to trap even more warm air. The Carinthia 4 utilises a 2-layer construction. There are little details that might be interesting for the one or the other. For example the moskito net in the Carinthia Tropen. Or the different body sizes. The various British made Snugpak and various Carinthia models have little differences that can become important for a personal choice. The final construction feature which is very good is the water resistant outer layer.
