About this deal

Bobby, Chris Chapman could still have made a tribute to Mary Tamm and could just be making it sound like he hasn’t done it. The fast-paced action and contemporary horror on display is of the sort Doctor Who does best, and the adjustments implemented to the regular cast and the tone are demonstrably effective from the off. Of course, all of this is viewed with the gift of retrospect; a viewer watching week-to-week would not have known that the Master would be appearing in every story and could be forgiven for thinking that he wasn’t going to appear in Colony in Space, where he doesn’t crop up until episode 4. Season 8 is a collection of big, brash, colourful romps, the Season 7 template softened by the introduction of warmer and more intriguing regular characters (although there’s an argument to suggest that The Master, appearing in every serial, becomes a little overused). Back in the Pirate VHS days that I mentioned earlier, it was one of the first three stories that I got on tape – along with The War Machines and The Talons of Weng Chiang, randomly – and although I’ve always been a fan of Tom Baker’s gothic opus, it was this story that really got to me.

But either way, we’ll always have this spanky collection of Season 8 – a quite literally masterful collection of episodes. It’s still a bit ropey in parts over the last two episodes, but hey, if it means we have the entire Pertwee era in colour (of one sort or another), that’s fine by me and if you don’t like it, you can always turn the colour down on your telly. I should have stopped watching then , but i didn’t want to leave the sinking ship and let Powell win. The Direct Route - Doctor Who directors Michael Briant, Graeme Harper and Tim Combe take an epic road trip to all the filming locations from Season 8 as they discuss directing the show in the early 1970s.There is no better tv that was created than Doctor Who and the Classic series has stories that made you think but also wished you were part of the adventures in time and space. The script is a little thin on the ground and, as I mentioned earlier, is essentially a remake of Spearhead from Space with added bells and whistles. As beloved as Season 7 of Doctor Who is, there’s no doubting it’s a bit of a mish-mash; unlike the modern series, where a showrunner might be allowed a generous amount of time to work out how they want to present the new Doctor, Barry Letts and Terrance Dicks had less than 6 months to pull together a new Doctor, new companion, new format and the switch to colour broadcasting that was having an impact on every production within the BBC. This is the near-perfect UNIT Family story, with the cast operating as more of an ensemble than before or since. The serial juxtaposes gothic trappings with the scenic English Village setting, throws in some engaging characters, and plenty of solid action by HAVOC, resulting in an occasionally silly but ever-entertaining story of devil worshippers, strange witchcraft and alien gargoyles.

Sacha Dhawan for instance offers up insights and makes comparisons regarding his own performance as the Master when presented with the original portrayal. If theres a new announcement by the end of the year we might not have to wait until june next year for season 24 in standard. I corresponded a few more times, admonishing them(for what it’s worth) for not keeping me updated – allowing me to purchase elsewhere. Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse.

Can’t say it’s a rights issue either as they could easily include the Who snippets without as much as a frame of Disney footage. Once again Matthew Sweet sits down with companion Katy Manning but this time from a more in depth, I n Conversation discussion. I know these had the colour luminance from the NTSC copies transferred to the PAL film copies like The Colony in Space, but some sequences like in the Axon ship and the laboratory look quite fuzzy.
