About this deal

I reviewed the Sensel Morph back in October, but mentioned the Joué in that article since I first came across the latter some months before that. The Joue Play is a MIDI controller that can be used with all MIDI-compatible applications and music softwares. The piano notes are just about big enough for accurate playing and the key and drum pads a bit easier. In fact, the higher value is close to the numerical limit of 14-bit MIDI pitch-bend messages, and Joué tell me they'll support the true upper limit in a software update.

My hope is I can force the matrix pads into a glissando mode that we all so desire, and get a knock-off linnstrument.Scaler: A full-width 17-key chromatic keyboard layout oriented towards instruments like harp or vibraphone.

The domed button on each pad also varies by instrument, sometimes adding vibrato, sometimes changing pitch. It's possible to pitch bend along a string (a gesture referred to as vibrato), but the most extreme pitch bending (which is upwards only) comes from the 'bending' gesture, pushing strings upwards or downwards. And it makes no good difference as to how far the fingers are apart - even if they are at opposite ends of the playing surface I still have this problem! Since the projects are routing MIDI by channel, they don't attempt to make use of MPE (which is only a loss for Bitwig, since Live doesn't support MPE anyway), so if you want to adapt these projects as a starting point you'll need to turn off MPE for any modules you want to use. I think I might make a separate thread for ongoing discussion of development, if nothing else to keep me sane while I grok a new skillset. The editor manages presets (left-hand panel), and allows MIDI configuration on a preset-by-preset basis (right-hand panel).

This means single notes will have a lot of dynamic range, and you can modify your playing to play across all 4 horizontal zones to avoid collisions. With an increasing number of DAWs and instruments supporting MPE, which lets you control more than the standard MIDI controllers allow, it’s one of the few hardware controllers that can do it, and also one of the most affordable. Most music and virtual instrument software can now take full advantage of MPE Joué Play Pro for seamless integration into your production environment. I have dug mine out again recently though, because its absolutely my favourite controller for MPE Y gestures. You’ll need to attach the relevant pad to enable the different categories of sound and the app actually supports up to eight boards being connected, should you want to collaborate in real-time.Yes, I checked and there are effectively 4 horizontal strips and 12+ vertical strips that record aftertouch, based on the dimensions of the matrix pad.

I believe multi-touch screens have this issue but the firmware calculates the true values from interfering data streams. Bring unique expressiveness to your music creation and access a new dimension of sound design with the compact and modular MPE MIDI controller. The results are often surprising and useful, and Play is a fun way of helping players of all levels generate new musical ideas. I’m not sure what the problem is because I looked at the aftertouch CC output when playing 8 notes and didn’t see any interference. Capture your musical ideas wherever you are with Joué Play and complete your creation in your DAW with Audio STEMS and MIDI export.
