About this deal

Makes it easier to shape-shift into something else; to blend in at corporate functions or black-tie charity events. Racism is conveyed very effectively, especially in moments where Katie herself acts in ways that reflect her upbringing, rather than what she learns. When I heard the story line of this book I was initially very apprehencious as I felt that few authors are able to captures two sides of an emotionally charged issue. It made me feel all these things in the way that it is written with a solid historical grounded, but a sensitivity of the life and feelings of these characters - Tariro and Katie.

Fall is upon us and I’m determined to perfect my pie crust (still) so I can make more apple hand pies. Imagine now this same polar bear dipping a curious paw in the river water, then leaping in with a joyful splash. And the story ends at the point it gets most interesting, when the different worlds of the central characters collide far from the land they love. Imagine a polar bear at ease in her natural arctic world, her only home–until trappers capture her and take her to the king of England. She lived a happy life on her father's farm in Zimbabwe until the new revolution forced her family to give back the land they stole from the natives, and her life slowly crumbled to pieces.Part of my initial enchantment with this book was the time period - a totally unfamiliar landscape for me. I would definitely recommend reading Street Child before Far From Home, as FFH makes numerous references to events that happened in it. It’s not until I’m standing in the shower, trying to wash away the stench of eighteen hours in limbo, that the anger and anxiety rise up within me.

I watched a ton of documentaries on polar bears and also an incredible peek into little cubs leaving their dens for the first time. Pansexual Taylor is a gamer, a little bit punk, White like Cass, and so, so great—but she still can’t help comparing her to Rowan, Cass’ online best friend and role-playing ship partner. The abuses and agonies they had to receive from the whites (who claimed themselves their master) were unbearable. Her work explores themes of identity, belonging, faith, respect for difference and, ultimately, pride in all that makes each of us unique.Do you think that because we tend the fields and carry babies on our backs that we do not have eyes to see?

Suddenly I am nearly overcome with the urge to scream, to let everyone within earshot know that I DON’T BELONG HERE! I guess this could be uncomfortable reading for some, but it reflects very much a perspective that was real. By the time Emily and Lizzie were in the mill, they should only have worked up to 10 hours a day, and they had to be over 10.I found out about this book from Africa Access, which is a wonderful organization to promote opening perspectives on Africa and supporting African authors. A mother’s story of the death of her daughter and the appalling hidden dangers of working conditions on Australian farms. In Victorian London, Lizzie and Emily are left in the care of a cook but their story takes them to the mills of northern England. Poorly advertised to look like a middle grade book but this is definitely something for the older crowd too, dealing with issues such as rape, racism, civil war.

Going through the process of the each book allows me to sort of relive it all and pay homage to the time it took to make. The two narrators, using first person narrative have presented the reader with an intimate and vital view of both worlds. Since then, he has received Microsoft’s diversity award, participated in Microsoft’s law and corporate affairs’ diversity efforts, helped launch Microsoft’s Elevate American Veterans Initiative, and worked to develop its diverse recruitment pipeline.Cecil John Rhodes was granted a charter by Queen Victoria, allowing him to run the country on behalf of Britain.
