About this deal

As if that wasn't enough, she now has to deal with a defamation case brought against her by Max Hastings. As we cross the ¼ mark in the novel, I was excited to see where this was going to go but after how dark the second book got, I am not sure what direction Jackson is going to take this in. But that means it made me feel and thats for me the most important thing in a book that it makes me feel and that was what As good as dead delivered. No, not a lead, a lifeline: some strange unknowable force connecting them across time, though they’d never met. Overall, this has been a solid 5 star series and each one of these books has left me breathless by the end and this might be contender for my favourite book of the year.

with this book, it takes a completely different turn, given she has completely lost herself, and has become this paranoid person who cannot sleep and has so much pressure on her. Max on the other hand, is cunning and sly and if it does go to court I am not sure how well Pip is going to do with her current mental state. But in this book, the mystery is just a small subset of the whole story, and it is over quickly, with barely any detecting. Not only does she make it look like someone else is the killer, staging false evidence and coming up with an elaborate scheme, but she gets Ravi to help her and also a few of her friends 😕 that is so fucked up. Holly Jackson has quickly become one of my favourite authors, and I intend to read every book she publishes in the future.

Then about halfway point, it pulled the rug under my feet by handing me the twist (Pip deliberately commits a murder) of a lifetime .

They set the scene they need and then head home to create their alibis, Ravi with his cousin and Pip with her friends and she turns to Nat, Jamie and Connor for it explaining that she can put Max away for good but they can never ask her how and she will never tell them and they surprisingly agree. The courage Jackson had to subvert the conventions of the detective fiction – we should be courageous even if in this case, it really did not work for me.

Yes, this review contains major spoilers for this book as well as the previous two books in the series. despite the ending that they had, the love they had for each other was present in everything they did. At that point, the book takes a turn in a direction I don't even recognize for this series and its characters. On the other hand, I can see why it would be the perfect route to take in bringing this trilogy to an end. As we approach the ¾ mark in the novel, we’ve still got around 200 pages left for Pip and Ravi to get away with murder and put a serial rapist behind bars and I can’t wait to see if they actually pull it off or if Pip is going to prison.

I absolutely loved the first two books, and I believe I ranked the first book in my top three books of 2020.

It would be safe to assume that he would be feeling immense guilt, trauma, and remorse, especially because of his experience with his own brother getting murdered and framed. It seems everything is coming full circle with the Bell family as they started Pip’s journey and now they are going to end it as well. Yeah, Pip thinks the police won’t believe her because she’s seemingly unstable, but Ravi can corroborate. It seems to me like this might be a copy cat killer or someone that is using the MO of the DT killer because they know that Pip will look into it and know what is lying in wait for her. the reason it took me so long to finish was partly bc of the fact that i took breaks from 12-14 and 16-17.

If Pippa had PTSD from seeing up close how someone got fatally shot, how would she handle having hit a guy WITH A HAMMER! As much as I’m appreciative of the knowledge being imparted (cause I’m sure I’ll put it to good use in the future *cue me being sarcastic*), I DID NOT WANT THIS FOR PIP. If she’s willing to cover things up from the cops for a friend in the first book, what’s going to stop her from doing it to save her own skin after she’s gone through all that trauma?the writing was very repetitive throughout the story as a way to convey pip’s ptsd which i appreciated. I must admit, the kidnapping scene happened not where I thought it would in the book, and her managing to escape was quite far fetched, but I was still rather enjoying it nonetheless at that point. While Pip is used to trolls, any person with a public presence on the net is, she begins to take special notice when one particular troll asks her the same question over and over: who will look for you when you're the one who disappears? How is it that after committing rape and a number of murders the DT Killer was easily deveated by AN 18 YEAR OLD?
