About this deal

One minute they are doing full coverage of the making of this film and the attention to detail, the use of actual items and CGI. That’s not actually the compiling of the features themselves, but more putting together what the shape of the eventual discs would be like. Now we’ll talk about 4K titles that we know are coming (and we’ve spoken of them before here at The Bits) but that haven’t yet been announced.

It's big and loaded with rich people who really have nothing to complain about until God gives them a rude awakening. Lionsgate has just announced that they’ll release the Erwin Brothers’ Kurt Warner biopic American Underdog on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 2/22. Included will be Twilight (2008), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and the Breaking Dawn: Part 1 – Extended Edition (2022), as well as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012). This of course is meant to promote the release of the new sequel, Downton Abbey: A New Era, which arrives in theaters on 3/18.The set will include The Mummy (1932), The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Phantom of the Opera (1943), and Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954). Wilkinson of MVD Entertainment (and the MVD Rewind Collection) revealed during a panel at Kevin Smith’s recent Smodcastle Film Festival (this past Sunday) that he’s currently working on a new 4K edition of Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing (1982). Since this is before cell phones, and the nearest ship to them is a zillion miles away, the big boat sinks and almost everyone dies - very Shakespearean.

As longtime Bits readers will be well aware, both films were expected for their last major anniversaries in 2014.

Any chance you could make a few screengrabs of your HDTV version to check if it's the same as the 1080i broadcast? We’ve got some good Star Trek 4K news for you this afternoon, and a little bit of James Cameron 4K news too. And Stuart has delivered his take on Kino Lorber Studio Classic’s Audie Murphy Collection II on Blu-ray, which features Sierra (1950), Kansas Raiders (1950), and Destry (1954). First things first: Our sources continue to report that Disney is likely to release both James Cameron’s original Avatar (2009) and his long-awaited remaster of The Abyss (1989) on physical 4K Ultra HD early next year. We’re back as promised this evening with more upcoming catalog 4K Ultra HD news and rumors from our studio, industry, and retail sources.
