Ditto her father's relationship - she was horrible to his new partner and came off like a bratty teenager instead of a supposed independent woman trying to have a career in music. TikTok killer's evil mother groomed my boy: Father of 18-year-old whose lover, 46, plotted his murder with her influencer daughter when he threatened to reveal their fling says 'he was so young. Massive big up to every single one of my daytime producers and The Live Lounge/smug life listener crew, I have loved hearing your stories and enjoying keeping you company with tunes in daytime and look forward to continuing that in September, so see you a few hours later!

She knew what to say when her father’s face clouded over at the realisation of where she would be every day. Mary McConnell has spent her whole life looking after other people - her alcoholic father, her troubled older brother, and, since she was just a teenager herself, her son. charted through the story of mary, a young teenage girl who becomes pregnant upon losing her virginity, mother mother flits between past and present as mary's son attempts to find his missing mother. In this week’s ‘Bookshelfie’ episode of the Women’s Prize Podcast, Yomi Adegoke sits down with DJ, presenter and now novelist Annie Macmanus, to discuss the five books by women that have impacted her life and career.Mother Mother is a book about the reality a lot of girls in their late teens face, and how these decisions follow them for decades. Furious row breaks out in tiny village after 200-year-old 'spit and sawdust' inn is turned into trendy. But to say Ireland isn't present in The Mess We're In despite its setting in London would be a total lie. Small gains, big losses, and a sense of the constant presence of some kind of foreboding brink unfold throughout. Meanwhile, London entrances even as it overwhelms, and Orla gradually adapts to its rhythm, landing a job at Fahy’s, an Irish pub in Kilburn, where elderly regulars tell tales that gesture to the breadth of the Irish experience.

The DJ, 42, was glowing at the event, held at The Standard in London on Tuesday, accessorising her suit with a pair of white trainers and a yellow and green clutch bag.At only 35, Mary has needed all her reserves of resilience for all her life, and the reader hopes that although she has run away that she has some left. Also, I used to work with old people, a lot of whom were first-gen Irish immigrants who lived in Kilburn and the surrounding areas of London, so some of this really resonated with me. She left the station last year to pursue other avenues, which have included publishing her debut novel. Macmanus is the host of BBC Radio 1's "Future Sounds with Annie Mac" as well as other BBC Radio 1 shows.

I was first attracted by this book as I was about the same age as the character Orla in 2002, and did hang out with musicians, barmen. I thought this was beautifully written and tender - I found myself unable to put it down, letting myself get completely engulfed in this heartbreaking story. But this is not a Cinderella story, and Orla’s life is a mess when we meet her first (moving with her best friend Neema from Cheltenham to London), and things don’t really change as the narrative progresses. Complicating Orla’s ambition is the fact that back in Ireland it was her father who got her into music, and now he’s left her mother to start a new family with another woman. Neema is her best friend but it’s clear that even Neema is challenged by some of Orla’s path toward self-destruction.Confirming her departure, the DJ told listeners her job at the broadcaster has been like a 'second home', as Clara Amfo has been revealed as her replacement on BBC Radio 1's flagship music show, Radio 1's Future Sounds. Orla juggles trying to achieve a career within music for herself all while balancing two jobs and a headonistic lifestyle.

Gordon said: "We all know Annie as someone who oozes warmth, down-to-earth authenticity, and the sharpest intuition when it comes to creative expression. When I heard she was releasing her debut novel, I could not wait and was so happy to be accepted for this netgalley copy. As Orla experiences and experiments with sexual freedom (Moses, Vinnie etc) Neema struggles with watching her friend be so free when she is having to live under such conservative boundaries depicted by her Indian family.
