About this deal

I don’t think i’ve read a book with a nonverbal mc before, so that was one of my main reasons for wanting to read this one along with that stunning cover!! Jacobs father is one of the school boards members, forcing his believes on anyone, using religion to spread his hate. Making life for Jacob who’s only recently come out a living hell. Every Word You Never Said is the perfect YA mix of sweet and romantic, with a dash of small-town drama thrown in to boost the angst-o-meter to an entertaining and engaging degree. EVERY WORD YOU NEVER SAID authentically captures the high stakes of queer first love. Its courageous leads and delightful supporting characters left me full of hope. This story arrives at the perfect time."

Him wearing a skirt to school and angering not only his schoolmates and teachers, but the school board and a lot of people in town was nothing he needed on top of that. Indeed, Skylar’s tendency to wear skirts gets him detention, and gets Jacob’s father involved: a school board member wants to institute a gender-restrictive dress code. The friends and family who rally around Skylar help him to see that he is valued, even in a society that largely devalues the worth of disabled people. This realization is the story’s turning point, helping to bring the narrative to a satisfying conclusion. Age appropriate actions and responses, unfiltered as teenagers are. I can’t remember giggling so much over a read in a long time. Before cancel culture rant, yes, they’ve all had a go at this book—kids are kids. I loved they behaved as teens, reacted and messed up.I also liked that there was another pastor in this supporting Skylar and talking about what church really should be about. Not spreading hate and an agenda that fits your political career for example. (Not that I know a lot about religion, but I don’t think that it is intended to be used for that.) Authors, if you are a member of the Goodreads Author Program, you can edit information about your own books. Find out how in this guide. Poetry is such a personal experience on what will impact us when we read the words and what won't. We all view things differently and this is one reason I love to read poetry. I enjoy seeing how others piece together what they are experiencing and how it brings some insight into my own life. Some words hit harder than others, some collections work and some don't. For me, Every Word You Cannot Say completely worked and there were a few times tears stung my eyes. Basically, Skylar and Jacob meet….. and feel this immediate attraction to each other… 🙄 Like… Okay. I get it. Sometimes you see a pretty person and you think they’re attractive. Sure. I wouldn’t have minded if they simply found each other hot and later, once they actually got closer, they fell in love. That’s not what happens, though!!! What actually happens is they start liking each other immediately. Like, they literally speak 3 times (and not even about themselves! They know nothing about each other!!) and already have a crush and want to kiss…???????????? What's beautiful is the meanings I attributed might be different with another pair of eyes. But as it is said in Every Word You Cannot Say, we are all Here and we all matter. There universe has a song for all of us and I look forward to reading more by Iain S. Thomas.

Besides the great secondary cast and the sweet “first-love” romance, I also appreciated all the representation explored in this book. From the way Sky’s non-verbalism was depicted, to how his gender non-conformity was explored, to the way friend Imani’s pansexuality and wiccan beliefs were portrayed… I appreciated it all, and more. It should be illegal how cute, amazing, and downright emotional this book is! Skylar and Jacob make my heart go wild!" The characters where flat and vastly underdeveloped. The one person of color was almost exclusively described as "sassy" and the f-slur was extremely overused. Firstly, the amount of pop culture references. It’s realistic that teens bring these things up in conversation, but honestly they served no purpose and just seemed cringy.Imani standing by Skylar, supporting him and reassuring him, but also calling him on his shit. (For me she was a little bit too involved in his love life and asking him rather inappropriate questions after just knowing him a few days, but maybe it’s just me.) Are you kidding??? First of all, y’all never discussed it, so of course Jacob isn’t 100% sure if you’re officially boyfriends or not, and secondly, you’ve been dating for 2 weeks, and you only started talking 1 month ago!!! Of course he isn’t sure he’s in love, you barely know each other!!!
